Am I the only one using Ball Lightning for AoE damage on DH? I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else mention it.

It's cheap and spammable at 10 hatred/shot, really easy to aim through tight spaces like gaps or doors, and the balls have pretty large reach and deal 155% weapon damage to each target along the path, sometimes with multiple strikes on an enemy for each orb.

I switched to it after Twin Chakram and have yet to see a reason to switch to anything else. Granted I'm only lv31 and I've just started Nightmare, so perhaps I'm missing something.

my mines are doin like 800-1k and then close to 2k on crits. It's a pretty fun build I think. I mostly play with other people though so mobs are usually grouped up all good for the mines.

Been using these two builds for Inferno Act 1 farming on DH:

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...STV!ceY!YcZcZb - general mobbing / champion packs

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...QdV!ceY!YcZaYb - bosses. Smokescreen has saved my ass countless times on stuff like Inferno SK (namely his teleport -> melee ability which pretty much is a 1 shot for me). When you don't have enough Discipline for Smokescreen, you use Vault to save yourself from cheesy boss abilities instead. Depending on the boss, I swap Multishot for Marked for Death with Mortal Enemy runed.

Smoke screen x2 + prep with 60% heal is what you need to survive most if not all fights against champ packs/nameds/bosses in the later parts of hell/inferno. When stuff can kill you in 1-2 hits and you have a way to go invulnerable, i suggest you take it =)
Yeah, smoke screen and preparation are the only discipline abilities on my bar. If you do it right, you can be "invincible" for a good chunk of boss fights.

I'm also using a lockdown build with my DH. Not as high DPS as other, but I'm liking it.

I use Spirit Walk with Jaunt rune all the time on my WD.

Getting pounded hard by big damage, pop spirit walk and keep killing while they can't touch me.

So, what does a wizard have to do to do decent damage? I'm using these spells and i'm rocking 466 INT for a very dissapointing 121.67 damage at level 27. (in case it matters, i'm using Rakanishu's Blade (sword with 15.7 DPS) for the +31 INT) My shock spells do about 70-100 damage, my orb does about 150-300

Also, what's a rare amulet that does this worth?

    Strength +55
    Intelligence +51
Each hit adds +11 to life
    Regenerate +5 life per second
Monster kills grant +1 experience point
    (empty socket)

And last question, is the "add +11 to per hit to life" thing counted when you cast spells, or is it only when you melee?

My barb ended up using this build by the time I finished normal: Cleave/Rapture, Seismic Slam/Stagger, Ground Stomp/Wrenching Smash, Leap/Iron Impact, Revenge/Vengeance Is Mine, Battle Rage/Marauder's Rage, Ruthless, Inspiring Presence, Nerves of Steel. I originally had Ancient Spear/Grappling Hooks instead of leap but after getting cock blocked so many times I switched.

While it worked well in normal it just seems to be missing something in nightmare. Fodder dies easily, but it takes me a lot longer to kill elites. Perhaps other barbs could give me their insight? It seems like my builds can only cover two options out of the three available. (Single Target, Multi Target, Ranged Target)

That's by design, not something you're doing wrong. Certain annoying elites can take me 5-7 minutes of hacking away to kill as monk.

Weapon DPS matters in wizard damage. A lot. 1 higher dps will probably overshadow whatever 31int is doing for you, lol.

Pound for pound, weapon DPS and attack speed are the most important stats for wizard. High DPS single hand weapon + a focus that adds damage paired with rings that increase attack speed and damage are what I prioritize, then just throw INT on in other slots.

Not in the game atm, but I think I'm level 34, and damage is around 870 or so.

Is that true for WD too? Weapon damage > INT, I mean.

Yes. Right now I'm visitng the AH every few levels and trying to find some steals. I put the DPS on the weapon over ANY stat it gives. The dps increase is massive. When I first did it I went from a 40 dps to a 120 dps and it actually did triple my damage. It was like my other bonuses from my entire armor set just didn't matter.

I would say use disintegrate as soon as you get it. That'll destroy the hell out of everything. This is what I was running before my new build:

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...RXd!YXb!aaZaZZ

I don't know if you play solo but in public games, I would fuck everything up. throw out the hyrda which shoots arcane orbs for small splash damage, put up diamond armor with -arcane cost and then laser the hell out of everything. Not sure what my gear was like but the beam was doin about 150 every second and it penetrates so when you get stuff lined up, you fuck shit up. If stuff gets close you can freeze or force wave em away and get yourself back some distance.

if you want, you could switch out hydra for something else to boost dps like magic weapon or familiar with the sparkflint. I would switch between hydra and blizzard too. toss a blizz out to snare mobs then laser em down.

editing like crazy, but if you want a good wand. You can make a yellow one from, I think lvl 4 blacksmithing? That's where I got a pretty good one

    Trashmob / Elite - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...ViT!dYW!Zabaaa

    Bossing - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...ViT!dYc!aabaaa

Currently Lv.39 and above are the sets I use, I saw from 2h to sword and shield on bosses in Nightmare + as some like to hit for stupid amounts of damage, at least when you're teamed up with 2 other individuals I don't find myself playing solo that often so I try not to take risks as I find myself dead on the floor more often than not against bosses.

I haven't even used a wand since early in normal. Generally I find better bonuses and overall stats on daggers.

Since I finally have a free minute, here are all the builds I've been using in Inferno and Hell

This is my Wizard at the moment

    Spoiler: show

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...SXY!WXa!accZaZ

This is the build I'm using in that screen shot, it's my go to solo inferno build, it allows for quite a bit of survivability and kiting while still hitting pretty hard.
An alternative to this build is

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...SXY!eXa!YZcZaZ

But you really need to understand how to place meteors as your running, this is more geared towards hell where its less punishing for monsters to connect with you but I usually don't have an issue.
When I'm duoing with my monk friend I'll swap to something like this

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...SXj!VXa!YccZaa

The passive I'll swap between either the lightning stun, or galvanizing winds. Depending how I feel like playing I'll also use meteor but with Sparkflint instead of frost nova during a duo,
For full games I use something like this

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...SXR!TXa!YacZab

Venom Hydra's pool stacks on the same spot and this ends up doing a FUCK ton of DPS so it's pretty nice

but usually I end up going pure damage with a build like this

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...SXj!TXa!YacZaa

I'm lucky enough to play with a Monk who keeps everything off me, usually we don't have an issue unless there are Immune Minions or Teleport/Vortex.
If anyone has any questions or needs advice/tips feel free to shoot me a PM.

Can your Monk straight tank mobs with desecrator/fire chains/arcane/other incredibly annoying mods? Or do you just avoid those? Every time I find one of those things in hell, I pretty much have to skip them. Dunno if I'm doing something horribly wrong, or if there's a secret to fighting these types of mobs.

He just groups them together with the pull in. He dies sure but you're going to die, that's the deal with inferno and playing a Monk, it's his job to keep everything off me and the WD.

This is until he gets better gear, then they're fucking invincible more or less, I played with one who out geared my monk massively and he tanked everything and anything.

So I was using this build before in nightmare and it was imo pretty effective. But I just found out how I can make whirlwind barb work. And it's so much fun. 1.5k dps with a 1.7%drain weapon doesn't hurt either.

I can definitely make a few more tweaks for effectiveness. But right now I can clear rooms so easily. And whirlwind sustains itself as long as there are 2-3 enemies.

edit: Just downed ghom in act 3 with ease by whirlwinding nonstop. I changed my middle passive to superstition and I think his poison aura just kept giving me fury. I pulled out every 30 seconds to recast my shouts and then leaped back in. HP was slowly draining though so I used 2 potions. He was having trouble hitting me with melee attacks because I was always inside his ass via whirlwind.

I'm praying I can get this to work in hell.
