TLDR: A guy who was accused at 16 by a former-childhood friend of raping her has finally been fully released and cleared of all charges and of his sex offender status. Naturally, he didn't do it, but it took 5 years of prison for everything to come to light.
What frustrates me is not the injustice or anything like that (see it too often to be frustrated at this point), but the fact that his private counsel convinced him as a 16-year-old to "plead no contest to rape and an enhancement of kidnapping in order to avoid a possible life sentence if tried by a jury."
I remember another thread that talked about the statistics of how the court systems started pushing for everyone to plead no contest for charges against them, whether they were innocent or not, simply to avoid getting slammed with a life sentence should they be convicted in the end, and I still can't get over how shitty of a situation it is.
Hope this guy gets the shot into the NFL that he was seeking earlier. He had even signed a verbal commitment out of high school to attend USC on a football scholarship before the bullshit began.
