    I think the idea was to have a flavor for everyone. Relic is for the hardcore people and company weapons are for everyone else. Getting company seals is a pretty decent 'content progression' thing.

    I'm definitely not one of the people who these relic quests are tailored towards, and I've never had any drive for them at any point due to the reqiurements to get them, but I understand the need to have these sorts of long-term goals for other people who can achieve them.

    That said, I don't agree with a lot of what you said above in terms of weapons being available to everyone regardless of stuff. Unless you mean like you have the option of killing Ifrit (Extreme) or killing Ifrit (Hard) 200 times, that's sort of an acceptable trade-off I guess, but I'd probably even up the # of Hard-mode kills more =P (in a way this is how the dungeons are handled right? <17min=100% >17min=1%?). It's difficult to balance, and you always want challenging content, no? And you want challenging content to reward you with useful items, right? You can't hand out a Gae Bolg for killing Ifrit (Extreme) and hand out a Gae Bolg for clearing baby Iffers

    Yes, I do need to play... and I shall!

    But yeah, in regards to such highly regarded items like Relics, everyone should have at least some path to get there, despite how slow it may be. I prefer tangible progress though, and not drop-rate based. Even if it is 100% for the harder stuff, doing the easier/slower method should at least show progress by guaranteeing something and not potentially screw one person with nothing and raining drops on another.

    I hate to use XI relics as an example because the final steps required rather large groups, but the earlier parts were pretty solid. You could fund and run Dynamis and get shit down real quick by being skilled and having friends... or you could do your own money-making shit on the side and buy currency from others. That type of system is ideal to me, so having your playtime shot to hell by real life doesn't mean your long-term goal in the game is similarly hosed.

    I'd have to agree with Rocl. Getting a relic is still very possible for a casual player given he puts in enough time. None of the content is locked from the player and you don't have to deal with the cockblock of trying to win a NM pull. The catch is that relics aren't for everybody because as we can see from the steps, there is a skill ceiling to reach. Like I said earlier though, Hamlet and melding are the only real walls that are out of the player's control but once you're lucky/rich enough to pass that step, it all falls on the player and his crew of merry men.

    I don't think there is a Garuda (Extreme), at least not for relics. Patch notes only mention Ifrit (Extreme) being added, and limited moonrune reading says it's simply Garuda (Hard) with maybe some sort of special goal during the fight. If the latter is true I can't imagine it being anything more difficult than the Ifrit fight.

    Seems like Ifrit (Extreme) was created to be up to par with Garuda's difficulty taking into account the class changes/jobs. I do wonder what the conditions are, if there are any, for the Garuda fight.

    Anyone know if, once you get to the primals step, you can do Garuda first? Are you locked into any order?

    I hate that I'm in the minority for liking the crazy relic barriers. I hope people are opposed to them on the basis that the game is shit and that the actual content you have to do is torture.. rather than the long term/challenge associated.

    He likes the idea of the content being a challenge, thus locking "bads" out of getting relics.

    But he hates that its the same shitty old content we've already done.

    I like the long-term goal too, but the overuse of RNG is kinda sickening. Adding the skill challenges like 17min dungeon runs is a nice touch. Adding shit like Ifrit extreme-impossible is probably just to scare off all the people who think they have the dedication to do a relic but in actuality don't. So far it's working.

    Agreed entirely. I enjoy some of the current content but RNG for EVERYTHING has to go.

    When i quit in august of 10, i had no idea speed runs would be in the future, and then the short week i played back around oct? 2011, i still had no interest to play, but now that i'm getting into the game (ding 2nd DoW to 50 tonight!), the story (not gonna lie, FF's usually always come through for me on those, personally atleast, and this is no exception) and the interface, while still reeling from being still birthed then brought back to some weird semblance of life, being playeable. I will also note i've started to see these hints of actual skill come through. Speed runs, organization, positioning, etc. I'm pretty /psyched.

    I really want a relic this go round.. /shrug, i know thats tough because i consider myself a casual player, but in all honesty these req. don't seem super bad, and the ones that do (Speed runs, ifirit extreme, efficent hamlet runs) are things that seem like if you practice at them, you will get to the point where the are repeatedly do able.
    Now... hard part on Balmung seems to be finding a decent set of 16 players who feel the same way lmao, and want to group up 4-6 nights out of the week. (sorta relieved i'm not having to camp god damn ixion ><)

    Hamlet is the worst. Not only is it boring, but the drop rates are terrible. To give perspective, I'm considered "lucky" in my guild for having 8/9 seals in about 80 runs across all 3 zones. There is someone else in linkshell that has 7/9 and has gone to over 120 runs though, so it can vary quite a bit.

    Grats on 2nd DoW btw!
