The best thing about WAR strat was seeing people who've never played WAR fucking fall apart and panic when Ifrit was in their face.
Haha that was my group. We perfected the WAR strat as much as we could cus we refused to do it with a PLD. (no one was good enough to handle the task)
Any setup works really but running with 2 whm and abusing Vengs was a pretty safe bet. No too much pressure on any one person if shit hits the fan. Any other War with hate could rotate in if the main died.
I eagerly await the new Ifrit EXtreme design.
I didn't really feel like watching the whole video (I did have a hearty laugh at the great exhibit of SE's pile of shit servers at 0:20 tho) but can someone elaborate on the vengeance thing?
I assume there's a particular time/attack to use it on for greater effect?
depends on the fight but it didn't generate hate so it was nice in that respect. We used to do it with 2 WARs to push phase2 but didn't do it too often because of only having a single whm.
Anytime Ifrit is attacking you, or you can just hop in front of him. It ignored most of the game's mechanics and shot his attacks back at him for fuckhuge damage. Could counter for 1k+ at times. Just being smart and knowing when to use it. Typically inbetween TP patterns when he's swiping constantly.
Under the two war strat we used it after the first pattern to force nails, and whenever it was up afterward until the end set of nails were coming up. We'd force those watching the percentages gauging when it would be best to continue on killing. it was a great way to ensure you were getting nails when you wanted them. Getting caught with someone weakened/DPS taking too long/etc could often lead to a hopeless fight.
We actually used Vengeance to because it procd on Eruption and wiped out nails, then had plenty of time to kill horns.
Did it just reflect onto the nearest target?
Current target. Allowed you to pop MS a few seconds later and have it up for godsbane + time to help BRD/PLD nail. BRD is able to get into position faster and MNKs usually have enough time to impulse drive. Start phase3 with no horns.
Have they said if Phase 3 is open to accepted testers and people who played 1.0 previously? Like if you had a character you could log on for phase 3?
Yeah, anyone that had 1.0 acc can play in Phase 3.
I finally got a chance to try the beta, still got my crappy cell phone internet for a while, but the game handles my crappy connection pretty well. I really like all the changes they have made, the map ui is awesome compared to v1, the entire ui seems to have dropped the lag that v1 used to have when it seemed like it was communicating with the servers, though I didn't get to try out moving stuff onto a retainer, only got to level 9 in the time i was able to play yesturday.
i think i'll probably end up playing this when they go live, and all i've really done so far is just generic go get me this/kill me this quests.
i am very disappointed when i woke up this morning early to play and the beta is already closed =( whole nag free gaming day gone to waste.
I've only played FFXI but a friend was telling me about how the new FFXIV is supposed to be great, any kind of thread/website where I can find get info/newbie starter guide anything like that?
The official site is always a good place to start:

Regarding using a 1.x character in Open Beta when they allow importing into Beta.
Have they said anything regarding whether or not you'll be forced to take changes with you if you import? I was thinking about trying out different cities/allegiances on my imported combat characters in OB when the time comes, without necessarily burning my bridges. But, I do not know if it is viable.
(rephrased: can we discard any/all/some open beta changes to imported 1.x characters used in OB if we wish?)
Your character progress will be imported as it is in phase 3. Meaning if you're allegiance is also carried in, you're not starting from zero with lvl 50 character. You're rank in a grand company remains the same. However, he said we will be able to take a penalty and change it in the future (I assume rank/point reset). Also, no progress will be saved in phase 3 so you can do w/e you want.
Ah, excellent! Thank you :D
Edit: any idea if this will apply to final phase of beta as well, I assume they will add more features to play with in the final stage before release version?
Current plan is that phase 4 progress is going to carry over to the final release. However, they posted a disclaimer stating that if something goes wrong in beta 4 they may roll it back.
ah, makes sense, once again thank you
(currently testing Neverwinter, and the sheer amount of "ah, maybe that wasn't a good choice after all..." as I level is a little intimidating)
