They should just change the lore behind Anima; that would fix everything. No more complaining about it's intent of being a limited resource or dangerous when used in excess.

So, total noob here, stopped playing last october or so, got my archer to 45 in that time.
I thought 2.0 had been released, my game version says 2.0 when I try to log in, though that might be a client version. Considering they just had screenshots from e3 I doubt its out yet.
I'm wondering mostly what they've added since I haven't played, what they're going to be adding with 2.0, and if you feel the game in its current state is worth paying for and why, or why not.
I really wanna play an MMO again, and I got almost capped in the old republic but it just feels too much like wow to me, both in a gameplay sense and the fact that nothing really feels like an accomplishment because it all feels practically handed to you. I liked the voice overs and what not but that's just not enough to keep me interested.
I really enjoyed the time I spent in ff14, got my personal chocobo, did the ifrit fight at 25, also wondering if they've added more summon battles since I left.
It just seems to me ff11/14 have different philosophies than wow/tor in that one rewards you for simply playing, and the other rewards you after time/energy/effort spent, to me when you accomplish something in ff online it seems far more rewarding since there was so much more time/energy/effort spent accomplishing your goal.
Achieving level 50 is easy now, with a good number of people with 50 all DoW/M. Crafting has been improved, though still tedious in large quantities. Primal battles (like Ifrit) were added for both Garuda and a group of moogles (King Moggle Mog and his troupe), as well as a couple of new dungeons (Cutters Cry + Aurum Vale). The main thing right now is the Grand Company quests that are added with each patch that continue the Eorzean Alliance, Garlean Invasion, and Dalamud/Meteor storylines.
You've missed the boat to qualify for the Legacy Campaign (I think?) (The boat has almost sailed, but you have a few more days, see next post), so personally I don't think it's worth resubbing before 2.0 hits unless you really want a Goobue mount that you can only obtain before 1.23a hits. It might be worth resubbing if you already know some people playing, but if you don't have a linkshell, the game is rather devoid of content (and even if you do have a linkshell, running what little content there is gets boring fast).
2.0 should be due in early 2013, with the beta for it in the 4th quarter of this year.
If he had an existing account, he can resub and has until the end of the month to pick the 90 day sub and still qualify for Legacy.
Yeah I am probably going to hold off til 2.0, was just wondering what I was missing in the meantime, sounds like they did add a pretty good amount of stuff. I really like the framework of the game, it just seems to be missing, like you said, a large amount of content, which I imagine will start to be added after 2.0 is released and their framework is finalized.
Thanks for the info.
Couple more questions, what is the legacy campaign? Is that the summon battles? I read a while ago that people who do not play from version 1 through to version 2 will not have an opportunity to do those battles. Also, would I have to sub for 90 days to get the legacy? Most I could do atm is 30 days.
Just told my buddy I was gonna go back to xiv once I decided to play an MMO again, and he's like why the fuck would you do that to yourself. I was like cause I enjoy the game?
Depending on how diablo changes, right now I'm too casual to play it, just don't have time between work and school. I go into a1 butcher quest, meet the first rare mob pack, and then usually faceplant 3 or 4 times to some dumb fucking combination, then quickly log off in frustration. I just don't appreciate that the game is basically telling me to farm hell, level 50 content, at my character and gear level, to progress.
The FFXIV that exists now is not the same one that will exist come 2.0. The storyline will have come and gone, and will be inaccessible after the changeover. Additionally, Legacy status gets you some extremely nice pricing discounts that if 2.0 pans out at all will more than pay for itself in a short period of time. Details, I think, are in Raldo's link up top.
Reposting for ease of access:
Legacy Campaign
The main advantage is the $3/mo discount, which pays for itself if you end up playing for 10+ months of 2.0.

How many are needed for elder mosshorn, like 4?
Are the crafting GC armors from Ul'dah worth getting? Their stats look to be slightly better than crafted gear, but I've no idea how much impact they would have. Also what are people's five skills they are using for HQ?
Not a random question, but a "random post": stumbled upon it on the OF, I think it's pretty nice:

Flame sergeant's sarouel is the most craft. you can get in the leg slot, the XXX sergeant's beret and shortgloves are the same for all GCs and with those 2 + the sarouel (or if you already have your company's crafting ring) you get the set bonuses as well.
The legs + hat + gloves is certainly the most stats you can get per slot but how balanced it will be is a different story (head and hands being places where you can get huge amounts of craftsmanship).
And I use Byregot's, Perfection, Culmination, By the Book, and Piece by Piece as my regular default set for high level stuff. If I'm trying to HQ lower level mats I'll replace BtB and PbP with Greater Calling and usually add another +quality ability.
Yea I've got the pants as well, ranked up to lieutenant yesterday and am now sitting at 33k seals. I've been spamming manual II like a mad man to quicken this boredom mostly. Are the DoW armors worth it also? I assume they're a notch above AF, but below melded gear?
I'm not terribly familiar with all of the different companies' gear but I'd say that's a fair assessment, especially with how powerful most of the new lieutenant weapons are.
Sidenote: they really need to implement a way to make GC gear not a complete waste, it's good gear and it's not a RNG dicking which is great but at the same time once you no longer have a use for it all you can do is throw it away. That's especially painful when ditching 1 piece could mean losing a crucial set bonus which could invalidate other pieces as well.
They should let you turn in GC gear for a fraction of it's original cost (it would even make sense in the game, "oh you don't need these any more? we'll refurbish them for other company members blah etc"). It wouldn't be so bad buying a 25k seal weapon if you know you could get 25-50% of the cost back when you don't need it any more rather than just chucking it.
And no, being able to turn GC gear into materia is not a valid solution.
Good setup for fresh PLD using only AF. GC, and AH-able gear? And which weapon should I get first for lieutenant, flame bros if it matters, between BRD MNK WAR PLD? Looking at bow since it shits all over ifrit's, and the acc/crit on moogle axe is pretty juicy for me at the moment, other two don't seem like quite the upgrade bow is. Also how to shot PLD as far as keeping hate/doing damage? And what's up with BRD combos, shit is always on recast, am I just doing something wrong? How do you peeps have your BRD and PLD bars setup?
Additonal Q: Does gear without set bonus, such as the flame sergeant's belt, apply to set bonus? Ex. Tabard, Belt, and bracelts, will i get the +7 INT on bracelets or does the belt not count?
BRD combos are always on cooldown. It gets to the point where I'm often just free casting the 3000TP move just because theres nothing else to use. They need to lower the recast timers on some of their Weapon Skills.
Niiro, I remember them saying you will be able to return GC gear for some of your seals back. Just not sure if its coming in 1.23x or 2.0... I'm still holding onto GC bow because of that. -__-
Well, that's good.
I've had my eye on a few things and since I'm sure as fuck not doing a relic....
