All this talk about trading Malkin disgusts me. What the fuck Borque.

I could see Malkin for Weber or Suter, I think the only way that Pitts would trade him is if they get an elite D back
Malkin makes the most sense as the C to move there though.
- Staal would get a chance to move up the depth chart by 1 spot and be the #2 C in Pittsburgh.
- Could ask for more to move Malkin over say a Jordan Staal.
- It's not as if they're going to move Crosby, it'd be kind of risky. On paper it'd work out as Malkin would enter "Crosby isn't here" beastmode and get 150 points, and Staal would be moved up as well. But the outcry would be ridiculous from fans, and it's not as if say a team like Edmonton who is DYING for a #1 C would be like "Here, have #1 overall, Hall, Ebs and pick a 3rd player that isn't named Ryan Nugent-Hopkins" just to have Sidney come here and get his bell rung the first night we played Calgary or something.
Plus it would have to be a move for the immediate "win now" if they dealt Malkin, as what they'd get in return could/would come back to fuck them once contracts were up. It's not as if Evgeni would be moved for a few league minimum, depth guys.
I will say this is the most interesting Penguins offseason we've had in a while.
Also why the fuck does Pittsburgh have to deal anybody? They basically have the same core that was very successful in the past, plus James Neal. Say they deal Malkin, and Crosby gets all derpy-headed again -- they're fucked. I wouldn't do a thing if I were Shero except maybe dump Martin for picks/AHL guys.
Rumors floating around on Chelios trying to get Suter to sign with Chicago...the thought of a Seabrook/Suter pairing is bonerjamz
Because unless something miraculous happens all signs are pointing to Jordan Staal wanting out. The guy is a 1st line center playing on the 3rd line. They've got this season to either sign him or trade him otherwise he walks in the offseason. He produces with very little pp time and playing against the opposing teams top lines. It's not selfish of him to want to see what he could do with wingers that aren't tomato soup cans and spare tires. Also why the fuck does Pittsburgh have to deal anybody? First of all, if Jordan Staal is your first line center, you've got problems.
Second, you can't always get something for UFAs about to leave town. Dumping Staal before the season, or trading Malkin and re-signing Staal long-term, both are counterproductive for the team in 2012-13. I can't imagine Pittsburgh won't do their utmost to get a Cup-ready team on the ice in October, and that should include Staal and Malkin.
Do you see what Jordan Staal does? How is he NOT a first line center? 4/6 seasons he's scored 20 goals or more. On the third line. With extremely limited power play time. With scrubs as wingers. Can you imagine what the guy could do with some talented wingers?
Ironic that a Pittsburgh guy is talking about talented wingers. (Okay, you got Neal, but...)
But seriously, you can't just take a guy getting X minutes a night, expect him to go 2X minutes a night, and double all his stats. It doesn't work like that. First, Staal would also be going against team's top shutdown guys. And if he's on the first line, it's probably because it's a bad team. How many teams would he be 1C on right now? How many playoff teams?
CHICAGO: Thoughts on assistant Mike Havelid? He's being mentioned in the Caps coaching search. I know nothing about him.
I seriously think you are undervaluing Staal tremendously. I'm saying you're not taking into account that the guy produces without getting much time on the powerplay. When he scores it's usually even strength. He plays around twenty minutes a night as it is. But his primary responsibility is the opposition's top line. He is not used in an offensive capacity. If you don't think Jordan Staal would produce even more than he is now if he was focused more on offense you're out of your mind.
You're basing your view on his production as a third line center with limited powerplay time. You and I are in a glass half full/glass half empty conversation right now.He would obviously produce more with power play time. But I don't think he's one of the top 15 centers in the league, which is what I would call a true 1C.
Malkin for gomez + 20 sticks and 50 jackstrap
And really, I don't know WHY that happens. Does he play insane knowing he has to while he's THE GUY, and then when Crosby's back, let up? I'm not trying to knock him, just understand it a bit. Don't get me wrong, when he's on fire, I wouldn't think of moving Malkin for the world, but then when Crosby first comes back from an injury etc, he goes into a lull*.
When he's out there having fun, and his parents are in the crowd, he's incredible to watch.
*Malkin lull, which is still better than 85% of NHLers anyway.
