Frankly I wouldn't get in a Caps-Pens-Flyers playoff argument cause Tyler Kennedy had more playoff points in the Pens 1st round loss than Evander Kane has in his entire career.
As for Ivaden's remarks, this is all hypothetical but I do have 2 points to make:
(1) What if Malkin plays 70+ games next season and only finishes with 80-85 points and looks non-existant for multiple 10 game stretches? Just cause he had 1 season at full blast doesn't mean he can't go BACK to being lazy and disinterested. We all knew this season was coming (read the September BG posts), we all heard all off-season about how he was training like no athlete ever had in the history of sport and then we saw him annihilate the entire pre-season.
Lets see him maintain this drive for 3-4 seasons.
(2) You say you would start to doubt Shero as a GM if ________________. Did you not start to question him when he gave Tyler Kennedy 2mil/year? When Dupius is making 1.5? Cooke 1.8? When Jagr is still on the board and, if rumors are true, the Pens told a future 1st-ballot lock HOF and ex-hero of the franchise looking for a second victory tour, "We have to wait to see what Tyler Kennedy does first."? I'm not gonna lie and say I thought Martin's deal was awful when it first happened, in hindsight we all are looking at it differently now, but EVERY ONE WHO'S PICKED UP A HOCKEY STICK said Tyler Kennedy's deal was fucking stupid when it happened.
Wait really? Dupius was one of the best Point/CapHit contracts in the league last year. When Dupius is making 1.5?
Yes Pascal Dupius makes 1.5/year and deserves far more than that. Dude is a workhorse, a character guy, and no one in Pittsburgh has ever said a single thing bad about him to my knowledge. He hustles every shift, plays honest defense, blocks shots, has played every single skater position for the Pens (D, both wings, and C), has killed penalties and still occasionally does, and never whines or disrespects his teammates or opponents on other teams in interviews.
If Max got 1.75/mil from Philly, Dupius deserves at least 2.5mil cause they ain't even close in value and when Pascal's contract is up, I expect him to get somewhere in the 2.00-2.99 range but unfortunately probably not from Pittsburgh.
Like they said about Rob Scuderi, "He's one of those guys that, eventually people are gonna realize how good he is, one team is going to outbid you to retain his services cause you can't afford it with your cap room, and you shake his hand, say 'thanks for everything you've done for us,' and then go tell the media how disappointed you are to watch a guy like that leave your locker room."
And while my mind is on Max Talbot, I think its hilarious now, the hypocrisy I've just realized - The Flyers didn't want party boys on their team, so they jettisoned Carter and Richards.... yet they signed Max Talbot of all people?! LOL
Wasn't it obvious from 24/7 that the Pens employ Dupuis to make Crosby feel better on road trips?
1) I know it's naive, but I don't see Malkin getting lazy. Could he go cold for stretches at a time? Sure, but I don't think it'll be for lack of effort -- and let's be honest, you can tell when he's being lazy and when he's just being snakebitten. Look at 2010-2011 and how Neal was after we acquired him and then compare it to last season. Unless there's lingering injury issues, I think we've seen the last of Malkin looking non-existent. If he goes cold, he's just not finishing in my opinion.
2) Good point with Kennedy, but you and I both know he's the type of player that Shero likes. He'd be highly touted in the same light as Dupuis if he could learn to pick his shots better and not just throw it at net every time he touches the puck, because I've looked at Kennedy as Dupuis Lite for the past two seasons. Well, except for the fact I like Dupuis and I just don't like Kennedy at all. I see potential there to be a decent hockey player, though.

Fuck I am so fucking bored during work now with no hockey to watch/listen to. Draft party next week, Free agency in July and my vacation in August should keep me coped until pre-season.
I think of it this way, if you're a forward and your team needs someone to serve a penalty, you better be putting up 60+ points or 150 PIMs. Being put in the box to serve a bench minor says you're the defensive weakpoint of your 12 forward collection. Perhaps you put up 30+ G and/or 60+ Points and score a lot for your team. Perhaps you're not meant to be a 'real' hockey player and you're there to beat people up and protect the stars, you still provide something to your team. Its one thing to be Alexander Semin serving a bench minor. Its one thing to be Brandon Prust serving a bench minor. Now what is to be said of someone who isn't looked upon to be a leading source of offense, is the worst defensive forward on the team, and doesn't defend his teammates?
If you want something to flip out about, consider THE ENTIRE JETS TEAM from 2011-2012 has a combined career 85 playoff points from Big Buff, Blake Wheeler, Andrew Ladd, Kyle Wellwood, Nik Antropov, Eric Fehr, and Antti Miettinen. (Everyone else has 0 from never being there or a couple have played in 1 series back when the Thrashers got swept... Jim Slater and Mark Stuart have a series of experience but no points, for example).
The Pens THIRD LINE of Matt Cooke, Jordan Staal, and Tyler Kennedy has more with 87 combined career playoff points.
SIDNEY CROSBY ALONE has even more than that with 90 points.
As a whole, the Pens have 452 career playoff points to their names, led by Sid with 90, Geno with 81, and Kunitz with 48.
We can all agree Kennedy sucks, but I do think potential is there. Do I think it's 2m/yr potential? Probably, but he definitely hasn't earned a bigger paycheck than Dupuis, Cooke, or Niskanen (seen he rejected qualifying offer of 1.75m).
blue, I read on HF that E. Kane might not want to re-sign with the Jets? What say you?
Spoiler: show
For the curious (as I was):
Sid's 90 career playoff points have him tied for 106th all time (but keep in mind he's only 24 still). He already has passed players like Martin St. Louis, Teemu Selanne, Mats Sundin, and Pavel Bure. Gretzky holds the best, (derrrrr), with 382 points, a mile ahead of second place even, which is Mark Messier with 295 and then Jari Kurri with 233 at 3rd. Damn Oilers.
For Lidstrom lovers, he finishes 12th all time (2nd amongst defenseman, behind only Paul Coffey), with 183 points. Coffey has 196. The lockout very well could've cost him #1.
Ladd can't hear you, he has his 2 Stanley Cup rings in his ears.

It doesnt matter if youre capable of putting 7 in 1 game when the opposition can put in 8.
