Potential is there for a really interesting summer, Parise/Suter primed to get all of the money ever, we're still looking at an as-of-yet undecided realignment, new CBA needs to get worked out, and the Habs will be on the hunt for another head coach when they realize that Michel Therrien can't count backwards from 1,000 perfectly in French.

Anyways, my contribution to start us off:

Pens are opening favorites for 2013 Stanley Cup, provided theres no lockout. Pens 6:1, a few teams 8:1, Kings 10:1.

Phil Borque said on an interview on the radio this past week he thinks the Penguins should explore trading Evgeni Malkin this summer if they don't get an offer they like for Staal; saying you can't keep all 3 centers doesn't mean you trade the least talented of the 3. Trading the 1B center can be just as good, if not better, because the return would be astronomical (multiple first rounders and multiple top 4 D or top 6 wingers).

Honestly, its prob within the Pens best interest to move Malkin and flop him for some wingers/defenseman if Staal is ready to be a number 2 center.

I don't think you would get multiple, but Malkin for a Top 6 Winger, a Top 4 D, a 1st rounder and some other parts (another d man, lower round picks, bottom 6 forwards)

Phoenix would be an interesting partner for the Penguins. They have cap room but they don't have any real scoring threats the Pens would be interested in. I highly doubt the Pens would want Radim Vrbata. But the thought of Oliver Ekman-Larsson in a Pens uniform is very enticing. The two most logical destinations I can think of if the Penguins would decide to move Malkin would be either Anaheim or Colorado. They won't trade him to anyone in the Eastern Conference for fear of having to face him multiple times during the year. And they would be able to address two needs at once with those two particular teams as trade partners.

Malkin for Fowler/Ryan/High pick

Malkin for Duchene/E. Johnson/High pick

Something along those lines would make sense. I firmly believe the Penguins would have to get someone willing to dramatically overpay for Malkin to get them to even consider moving him out of town. Staal is infinitely the more likely candidate to go.

Id take that Colorado deal. Not so much the Anaheim deal. I'm not sold on Fowler at all and hes been nothing short of horrible in his own end the first two years in the league.

I guess you can hope that hes young enough that his defense will catch up with his offense (which is decent).

That's the problem that the Pens would have trying to move Malkin. Very few teams have the resources they would require for a deal of that magnitude to happen. Pop Pop.
