Announcing the "VanaFest Golden Gobbiebag Giveaway"! (NA)

The sneaky and stealthy goblins were able to infiltrate the FINAL FANTASY XI in-game item vaults and pilfer a ton of items right from under our noses... It turns out that it was all for a good cause because they are creating a variety of Golden Gobbiebags packed to the brim with goodies for some lucky adventurers to take home.

We have prepared a special survey based on the events and announcements of VanaFest 2012 to be posted after the event. By filling it out and answering the “Gobbie” question correctly you will be entered into a competition where you could win one of many Golden Gobbiebags, each exploding with a variety of rare in-game items!

    How to Participate
Complete the VanaFest survey, answer the “Gobbie” question correctly, and you will be entered into a competition where you could win one of the Golden Gobbiebags below!

Participation Period: Monday, June 25, 2012 to Monday, July 2, 2012 at 11:59pm (PDT)

    Restrictions
Only one entry can be made per Square Enix account.

    * Employees of Square Enix, Square Enix, Inc. and Square Enix, Ltd. and their relatives are forbidden from participating in the VanaFest 2012 Giveaway.

You will be ineligible if you do not meet the following requirements:

You must have completed migration of your PlayOnline ID to the Square Enix Account system.
You must have a PlayOnline ID linked to a Square Enix account. If you have not linked your PlayOnline ID with your Square Enix account or you do not have a Square Enix account, please read the details here and apply for the giveaway after completing the necessary procedures.
You must have a FINAL FANTASY XI Content ID.

*Players still in their free trial period will not be able to participate.

Please note that you will lose the right to obtain your prize if any of the following situations occur:

The character name or world name was incorrect at time of application.
The character receiving the prize was deleted.
You select “Return” for the prize delivered from the MHMU.
There are over 128 items in your delivery box.
    You already possess the item.
Though thorough testing has been performed, in the case that you possess multiples of the same rare item, authority to claim the prize will be nulled and the item will be deleted.

    Winning Entries
You must fill out the survey and correctly answer the “Gobbie” question included in the survey to be entered.

So why is it just those two Ark Weapons (and I think it's kind of a dick move that we have to choose)? The only thing I can think of is that there will be another way to get them, in addition to the pseudo-bonanza.

The odds seem so much worse for this than old style bonanza. Just in terms of the sheer number of prize winners. Only one rank 1 winner? And it's not even a 99 with those odds? Whaaaat?

In Rank 2 the only reasonable thing is to simply get the riftcinder or marrow.

Rank 3 is what will separate the boys from the warriors. Considering that each of those HQ armors comes with a free augment? Christ, the choices.

Well old bonanza was an infinite number of mules with 10 entries per mule, whereas this one is one entry per SEID, so there will be less entrants. I personally did 10 entrants, to guarantee myself a r4 item. My entries are down from 100 to 1, I'd imagine there are plenty of others who had more than 9 mules as well.

Not to mention there doesnt seem to be any entry fee to appease the gambling laws. Not that 2k gil is worth a damn to anyone, but I'm sure SE views it as a shitton of gil NOT leaving the system this time and are going to justify it so absurdly like the VW ticket system: "well we'll give you a ticket system (which isnt at all what you want and we know it), but you'll need to get 5 of them per".

I'm just happy I have a chance of being one of the 5,000 folks to get the Moogle costume. >.>

Was expecting it to be much more limited, but with the declining population lately, odds are in my favour of obtaining one.

Looks like they picked decent prizes this time but how are we all going to manage to get a scythe? I was kind of hoping you'd get the AA weapon as a prize for entering.

So which mythic is worth popping the rank one prize on anyway? How cool would it be to have a Conqueror to swap into just to activate Berserk?

Club,PA,GKT would be my top picks. GA with AM3 up during MS could be pretty damn potent.

Unfortunately, the most useful mythics go to the least useful jobs. I'd put them in tiers:
    1) Ryunohige and Kenkonken are easily the furthest ahead of the nearest competition for DRG and PUP. These are competitive with or the best weapons the jobs can equip even without any AM.
    2) Kogarasumaru, Nirvana, and Laevatienn are pretty ideal for their respective jobs when you can maintain AM2/3, which should be easy in events like Voidwatch but difficult in events like Legion.
    3) Conqueror, Terpsichore, Tizona, Carnwenhan, Yagrush, Liberator, Aymur, Death Penalty and Burtgang are all kind of moderately useful weapons. They have a purpose, but it's not a very commonly useful purpose and other weapons that take less effort are often better options.
    4) Glanzfaust, Murgleis, Vajra, Gastraphetes, Nagi, and Tupsimati are pretty much shit-tier. Even if you like the job enough to get them, you shouldn't use them.

I might be wrong about the exact placement in groups, but this is approximately how I see them.

I would move Yagrush to the 2nd tier personally. That constant AoE effect on -na spells is broken as hell.

Final Fantasy XI: Experiments in Sadomasochism

The last one counts, because the safe word is "Balance". (Too bad they always ignore the safe word...)

Why are Hrafn items in the potential winning list when Huginn is the HQ set?
