If you really wanted an empy or relic you've either made it already or you're working on it now. A mythic is on a whole 'nother level of effort.

I guess there's some truth in that, since relics require probably a tenth or less as much time now as they used to. Just sounds silly to me to pick for example a Conqueror for your WAR if you're Empy-less and relic-less just because it's more rare where both of the other options are more useful. And as we know, life isn't fair, so the singular winner of this contest will likely be someone who has been playing for about two weeks.
Pretty much. If I wanted a Hvergelmir for my SMN, I could work on one. (Although getting it to 90 would be a bitch and beyond would be stupid.) If I wanted a Nirvana for my SMN, I would be insane because it would just never happen. (If I wanted a Claustrum for my SMN, I would be insane also, but only because it is such a terrible weapon.) Winning the Golden Gobbiebag I and taking a Mythic would be like winning a contest an having a choice of a new house or a trip on the Space Shuttle. A new house would be more practical for most people, but it's a trip on the Space Shuttle!
If you really like DRK, Liberator is a good weapon when AM3 is maintainable. I think you can actually 4-hit it with Neo-Nyzul gear (actually maybe not- can't seem to get enough STP; I must have used the unreleased version of NN gear last time I took a look which may have had more STP).
The effort to get that 90 Conqueror is monetarily about 6-7 times as much as the effort requiered to get a Bravura, and if you paid someone to do the empyrean for you probably 8 or 9 times as much as buying a 90 Ukonvasara. Not to mention finding that amount of alexandrite is a whole different level of hassel in comparision to the abundance of currency and ease in popping empyrean mobs. Also the trials involved taking loads of pictures for ZNMs instead of a 1-2hr stint in dynamis. All in all, I'd place the effort required to get a mythic at probably 10 times as much as that required for the relic counterpart and even more so than empyrean (speaking for level 90 versions since that is what is on the table for rank 1 prizes). In the end, unless you had no means and no desire to spend a little bit of time to make a relic or empyrean then you should probably just pick a mythic if its free.
simple question, where is the survey to fill out oO
i dunno.. if it were me I'd rather take the Kraken Club and sell it to fund my Nirvana. Sure its awesome to just get it, but I've been working at it (slowly but surely) for the past like 5 years of FFXI and have everything done except for the Alexandrite, which is still just ridiculous. It'd be sad if suddenly after winning a lottery it'd have meant all the hard work i put in was for nothing.
That said a KC isn't enough to fund an Mythic as it is and i doubt any of the sellable stuff in rank 2 will put enough in the bank either.
Anyone who picks an Empyrean for rank 1 is just a fool tho, or really lazy and never bothered trying for any legendary weapon anyway.
i still don't see the thing up yet.. :\
Seriously though, where do you sign up for this?
Edit: Nevermind, I just realized the time when it starts.
Of course.
A bit off topic, but does anyone know any actual numbers on how many active subscriptions FFXI holds today?
If you were hell bent on finishing your Nirvana the normal way, you would probably still be more well served picking another mythic for your prize. the 50-60m you would get for a KC can be earned in a couple days. Finding that alexandrite will very likely take you longer than earning that gil.
Farming HMP and rift cinder/dross was a decent way to make gil when I was playing, especially if you need anything the bosses drop or merits.
Things vary from server to server as far as NM drops (there are some seriously easy to get drops selling for over a mil on phoenix at the moment), but as mentioned dynamis can make over a mil an hour. I still sell empyrean weapons to people at a rate of a mil per man-hour+, people are still more than willing to pay a large amount of gil if you knock out their 85 weapon in two days over a weekend or something if you have the time to do that.
