Didn't see a thread for this. Just premiered tonight after True Blood, and I have to say I was actually pretty impressed. Very good writing and I can't wait to see what happens next week. Definitely Recommended.

i thought it was pretty good. i had already read the 'Reception' section of the wiki article, and it was better than that made it sound.
I thought it was pretty good.
it's not fair how fun the show makes the work look
enjoyed this show a lot. bridges character is such a fucking prick as was his former EP lol
looking forward to this tongiht, i have been excited since the preview dropped. i fucking love sorkin's writing.
Great Episode, glad I wasn't disappointed after the previews for it on HBO every other hour for 2 months.
FYI. Hbo put the pilot on YouTube.
I want to watch this for Olivia Munn.
I really liked the pilot and am looking forward to the next episode.
Love that Daniels' character is basically a doppelganger for O'Reilly, especially seconds before they're on-air in the "FUCK IT WE'LL DO IT LIVE" sense; guess they're not going to be subtle with the "here's how you could be doing it, FOX" message they'll lean against all series.
Also love Sam Fucking Waterston getting to be a perpetual drunk after 20 years of purgatorial PG-13 crime drama. The character didn't necessarily do anything brilliant yet, but it's also not Jack McCoy. Sam's always had the range for something like this; glad to see HBO gave him the job.
Anyway, it's unique. It has an odd pacing, high drama interrupted with spats of situational comedy and strong zingers. If they ease up on the naive, campy, change-the-world line of dialogue that enveloped their pilot, I can only foresee greatness for Newsroom.
It's more KO than o'reilly.
I loved the show, but I had to admit to myself that the news cycle even back in 2010 when that crisis arose was vastly different than what is being portrayed on the show. We live in a world where news is a NOW thing, an internet, CNN/HLN/FoxNews thing and not a "everyone wait til 6pm to watch some news show for their information" type of reality. I know there are still a great deal of people who watch those types of shows, but the way it was portrayed just doesn't sit with me as "reality". It may be the truth, but sometimes the truth is hard to believe.
That being said, I have missed Sorkin's style of show. West Wing was a mainstay, and I still can watch reruns of the show without boredom. Studio 60 was a good show, with a far too slow build up to greatness than it required to stay on the air. I know people hated it, but at least it said something (some of the time). Not something most shows today do anymore. I hope that the rumors that the show's subsequent episodes are not as good as the pilot is all butthurt media types that take offense to be called out for being ratings whores rather than newshounds.
Well definitely -- McAvoy is a composite of many pundits/anchors. I thought the off-camera shouting and the Irish surnames nodded more to O'Reilly. But yeah, the character is obviously meant to embody a little bit of every real broadcaster, from the smallest locals to the biggest network suits. He epitomizes the potential blah blah blah call-to-arms message bullcrap you heard in the Northwestern debate brought to life in the rest of the episode. Plus, every now and then a pinch of Harry Dunne sneaks in and gives you one of those unavoidable ticklish laughs.
Anyway, HBO likes to make shows that tell gripping stories through character interaction, but I get the impression that Sorkin thinks he's writing scripture instead of teleplays sometimes. It's all been very preachy since before West Wing, granted. Also this is his third TV show based on exactly the same premise in 10 years, fine. But this "look what happens behind-the-scenes of a TV show!" TV show has wheels with its cast and HBO moneys/production. I still contend that I likes what I sees.
Alison pil is so goddamn cute
another good episode, really enjoying this show
I miss my Blackberry.
