I have to hand it to Sorkin. It's a real accomplishment to make a show that comes off as shameless liberal wankery to someone as left of center as me. McAvoy's "registered Republican" pretext doesn't really hold up when he's disgusted by every element of the conservative movement and not just the Tea Party. Did he just wake from a coma that Reagan winning the nomination put him into? There are people like what McAvoy claims to be. They've been trying to build the Libertarian party into a real party for the past thirty years, not continuing to register Republican.

Believe it or not there was still reasonable republicans during and after Reagan. One that comes to mind is bob dole.

Fair bit of difference between Sorkin's Republican-strictly-for-the-purpose-of-offending-Republicans Will McAvoy and Bob Dole, who campaigned on indiscriminate income tax cuts and repealing Roe v. Wade, signed Grover Norquist's pledge instead of confronting people over it, and considers the Koch brothers personal friends, not the greatest threat to democracy facing the country. Being by all accounts a nice guy and thinking Newt Gingrich is an asshole doesn't change the fact that he went neocon along with the rest of his party.

That's the nature of today's GOP. If you still want to be relevent in today's party you have to pander the lowest common denominator.

I think that the line "I'm a register Republican..." throughout this entire show (hes said it almost every episode so far) is their "cop out" for trying to not have the show sound entirely liberal based on what they say/do.

Sad thing is, they're just speaking the truth on the issues (so far). The truth doesn't have a liberal bias... It's just what most liberals have been saying.

It's not any kind of a cop out at all, it's specifically stating that if you actually give a shit about logic, reason, honesty, etc., the gop is firmly against you.

But, yeah, they're really not even talking about the issues much, just about the extent of the blatant lying.

Politics aside, this was a great episode. The beginning was light and funny and hit all the right notes, and just as I was getting sick of their personal problems they turned on a dime and it felt like they had a purpose again.

Also, Don had two great moments for me. Yes, the end was refreshing, but also the bit with the ringtone was hilarious. I can't blame him, I'd be pissed if my girlfriend was pining away for some John Krasinski wannabe. I love Alison Pill, but Maggie's actions are fucking retarded sometimes.
