Sounds like someone has been burned by people far too much. As of right now, I can honestly say all DD are pretty much on equal ground for oppertunity to participate in events. If your LS is excluding your job, then its a personal decision by your LS and not a balance issue. If the general public is excluding your job, its due to sheer ignorance (cant help u there, stupid people are stupid)

Aside from maybe requiring PLD (I said maybe cus a WAR can tank fine) and WHM the rest is extremely flexible for party config for any event. Instances are heavily based more on player skill than job and anyone can succeed if everyone is on their game. There is no magic party config for any event. Sometimes people have to think outside the box like Moogle battle for example. Who says you need Archers when someone decided to take in 6 MNKS and steamroll the fight.

I'll take anyone who knows how to play DRG over a rookie WAR.

I dunno, I interpreted it as "It would be very annoying to have to log out / log in just to switch jobs, and all the progress I had made on one character would not apply to the others."

This isn't a conversation about adding abilities to your kit, it's been about CAPPING. If you're capping, it isn't about applying bonuses to the job you prefer anymore. Even if you want to draw that parralel to another game, one could argue that playing the job you dislike could get you a getter shot at rolling on the job you actually like. Conversely, if you're clearing a dungeon or something and gear is distributed in FFXIV, your leader may force you to roll only on what you're going to come as most of the time (or even worse, you may get the gear, but never get the opportunity to use it). Meaning you may make no progress on the class you care about in either event. The only way to be sure you're getting what you want out of your time is to only play the job you like.

Your hypothetical leader is a douchebag.

Yeah this argument isn't really going anywhere or based in reality.

Shouts wanna go WHM Tank BLMx1000

    LS's are more accomodating

If you only have MNK you are not useful all the time, same goes for only having BRD.

If you have tank/rangeddd/meleedd then you're set, you don't have to level anything else but 3 jobs lol

If you mean in general, of course it wasn't. If you mean my hypothetical isn't based on reality, pfffft I've personally experienced this shit. When I lucked into SCH being useful, guess what I came as most of the time? I just didn't mind because I liked playing SCH and didn't care about the gear I was or wasn't getting. It may not have been as blunt as "do this or no gear at all", but frankly I find the passive aggressive approach I got to be more insulting.

    Playerbase? Sounds like the internet.

Exactly, is there some kind of magical place in one the webs where that's not the case? The community is actually fairly helpful which I cant say about other games. I mean I've seen people join shouts for BLM final fight just to help people, that's pretty amazing. In games like TERA or Rift unless you have someone on same quest you can fuckin forget about it.

    ^ this

In XIV, even if not super often, people join just to help others, I don't think I ever eperienced that in any theme-parks I played.

I honestly think FFXI/FFXIV has a really good community compared to other games. When I returned to FFXI for a few months last year I was pretty shocked how I had forgotten just how nice most people were. In WoW, the douche counter reached ridiculous levels before I even left the Barrens on my very first character.

I could have sworn people were just complaining about not being able to find help for the last legs of their AF questlines due to everyone else having already done them? Is there some misinformation somewhere?

Of course there is. It's Final Fantasy, misinformation kinda goes with it all the time.

i've only been back to the game for 3 months, but in that time just from shout-watching it seems like that was the case, and now enough people have started playing again that it's not the case. or something. i haven't had too much trouble capping and AFing 3 jobs so far, without ever shouting or bothering friends. basically hang out near where a quest is or jump onto shouts for everything.

He's on Gungnir in my shell. I help shouters out about 2-3x/week. Most often it's final AF quest or dungeon AF. For the most part it seems like the average shout time is 1-2h for stuff though. Still wishing we had global lfg channel

It's usually the same on Excalibur.

I help people if they get clever with their shouts, and I happen to be bored and doing nothing important.

If you can amuse people, you can usually get a few bites. Keep it short though, and don't flood the damn chat window.
