    Default Build-up on monitor

    Have some build-up on my laptop monitor, want to know the best way to clean it. Won't wipe away with a cloth and tried tried with a little dab of rubbing alcohol (told that works fine on LCD screens, and though it got a fingerprint off, didn't do anything for the build-up) and no luck.

    Any tips for getting a little gunk off of my monitor (not even sure how it got there to be honest, I don't leave it open when it's not in use and never spilled/put anything on it)

    Spoiler: show

    All I see is the dust on my own display trying to see the dust on his display.

    If there's ever any small pieces of something on my monitors I lick my finger and then lightly rub it. And then I go grab a sock or something to dry it off.

    Worked for everything so far. <.<;

    Okay. I know about this b/c I did get a used monitor and it was pretty dirty when I got it.

    First, get a good antistatic cloth. Spray a corner with either Windex or lcd/touch screen monitor cleaner (I like Iklear stuff because it does the job and I have it around for my Ipod Touch anyway) and wipe said corner all over the screen. Do NOT directly spray the screen; my married sister's little 4 year old son did that with Windex on a LCD monitor, and it destroyed the monitor. You don't want that.

    Then just dry it/polish it with the dry part of the cloth. It should be clean after that.

    Just tried with some LCD cleaner from office depot and a microfiber cleaning cloth. No success at all.

    Someone said it the build up may be on the inside of my screen -.- cause nothing is taking it from the outside. If that's the case, how could I go about this?

    First step would be being prepared to buy a new monitor because there's a large chance you will permanently ruin it.

    so basically send it back if it's still under warranty? It's a laptop so not really as simple as buying a new monitor

    I'd guess your warranty won't cover dust.

    This is why having glass over lcds is retarded though. It's a huge pain in the ass if you get dust under the glass.

    hmmm from what I've been told, the actual repair guy doesn't give a fuck it's just getting it through resources. If I didn't specifically say dust, like I could say "there's some marking that have appeared on the monitor that won't go away" to get past the HR guy, shouldn't be an issue?

    Hard to say from the pic...is it definitely dust, or is it possibly the screen surface getting scratched? I've seen that on certain models where the keys can wind up touching the screen when closed. If you wind up crushing the thing close in a backpack or something it can happen (or other damage, my Powerbook G4 cracked the plastic under the latch for example).

    Definitely not a scratch.
