KOTOR is pretty canon. It's on par with the book stuff, which is all considered canon. The only things that out-canon them are the movies and lucas himself. There's a whole tier system set up, iirc. And yeah, i don't think you can really weaponize hyperspace in that way either. it's an alternate dimension type deal, so i dont think you keep your velocity. You could still use it to launch surprise bombardments though. One of the characters in the expanded universe did that. He put hyperdives and cloaking devices on asteroids, then launched them at a planet. They dropped out of hyperspace, cloaked up, and set a colliding orbit.

I loved the OT as a kid. As an adult I recognize them as being well done exercises in classic storytelling. They are by no means towering masterpieces of cinema. They're just fun movies based on the old adventure serials, with some really creative elements and a genuine sense of wonder. They represent an era in sci-fi movies that reached its pinnacle with Blade Runner, then promptly dropped off.

The prequels deserve every bit of flak they get. Crass, soulless, commercial shlock with some of the laziest, most uninspired writing and directing imaginable.

Problem I have is that there's a tendency in fandom, and a tendency in an increasingly cynical society, to believe that the existence of one thing diminishes the value of another. The prequels fucking blew. That doesn't lower the value of the OT in any way. Nicki Minaj existing doesn't make [insert classic music of your taste here] shitty.

And by the way: Lucas didn't ruin star wars with the prequels. Star Wars was already ruined by its fans years before George decided he needed a fresh paycheck.

I agree to a point. I just wish he didn't act so pompous and spew bullshit like "I ALWAYS KNEW THIS WAS THE BACKSTORY" which most fans know is pretty impossible considering ep. 4 didn't become titled ep. 4 until the last minute.

What's interesting is reading some of the old drafts for the original star wars scripts, where luke was a 65 year old man and han solo was some kind of frog creature, and so on. The real irony of all the Lucas praise for the OT is that the reason the OT is good is because that cult worship hadn't begun yet, and people were willing to tell Lucas that he was a fucking idiot, and override his idiot decisions to make the movies actually good on some level.
