Okay, we'll turn it into a Star Trek one instead >_>

Agreed. I like to think of Archer as The Mad Captain.
i...i can't believe that i never realised how much of star wars was in FF12...and i called myself a fan of both franchises /shamemode
I've never seen Star Trek other then the 2009 movie...
Picard, Kirk, Sisko.
Wrath of Khan, first contact, new star trek, generations.
Yeah, I guess I was thinking it was more specific to Sidious/Palpatine, rather than the question posed. In any case, most of that wasn't in the movies and none of us should have to make that shit up to explain a movie
Srsly, he spent most of the first 2 (maybe 3) seasons, pacing around, being super pissed.
Kirk fucked every alien in the universe.
Movies
TOS: II > IV > III > VI > V > I
TNG: First Contact > Insurrection > Generations/Nemesis
tl;dr - Star Trek makes for shitty cinema and the last Star Trek movie with all its flaws smokes most of the movies that preceded it.
What was the one with the whale? That shit was hilariously terrible.
That was IV, and it was Hilariously Awesome for numerous reasons.
I like to think of the Captains like this.
Kirk = the hotshot cowboy
Picard = the diplomat
Sisko = the everyman who turns into a badass if you piss him off enough
Janeway = the overachiever
Archer = the guinea pig
Also, bonus points go to Avery Brooks for being legitimately mentally unstable. Seriously, check out ANY interview with him. The man is bonkers.
I could care less about how it was explained elsewhere, I was quite clearly talking about how it was explained in the movies.
Also what you posted does not explain why the Trade Federation was working with Palpatine. It explains what Palpatine was doing in the movies and some stuff that wasn't truly mentioned:
We hear about Plagueis but the fact that Palpatine murdered him sometime during the first movie is impossible to know only from the movies.But on the eve of Palpatine's election to the Chancellery, Sidious—in accordance with Bane's Rule of Two—murdered Plagueis and usurped the role of Sith Master.
You are missing the point that Lucas choose to do a convoluted plot when he could done something much simpler and more efficient.
Why have a villain like the Trade Federation, which is clearly not a traditional villain compared to something like the Galactic Empire, which is villainous by name alone, if you are not going explore the concept at all. The fact that they didn't even have a real representitive, Nute Gunay fails to make an impression in the memory of any viewer and barely has a line, also hurts.
Why not instead go with something simpler like having an evil planet of droids led by General Grevious trying to take over planets (again secretly led by Palpatine). Evil robots are more likely to be memorable than frightened Chinese aliens, and entertaining for children, seeing as people who are defensive about these movies love to point out that they are children's films.
When you remove complicated things from the plot like Trade Federations and treatys from the plot you are less likely to have people demanding things to make perfect sense. As soon as you complicate a story you better make sure you can back things up.
Hold on there bro, we're on the same side of this issue, I was merely commenting that, if the expanded universe can be relied upon, then that was why things worked out the way they did. I know perfectly well most of that wasn't explained in the movies; just because I referred to something out of the movies doesn't mean I don't know Lucas really fucked up with the plot. Fuck, it's like trying to make sense out of the movies means I'm pro-prequels or something.
wut?Galactic Empire, which is villainous by name alone
The worst part about star wars is the expanded universe crap.
It's seriously like religious apologetics. It's really incredible.
