You got all you really needed to know before Avengers though. He's a shield agent and he's really good with a bow and arrow. Hell, Avengers didn't really expand much more than that.

http://geektyrant.com/news/2013/5/7/...s-2-and-3.htmlSo there's a lot of drama going on at Marvel right now between the studio and the actors. A lot of the actors aren't happy with the way they are being treated by Marvel. There's a revealing article about it over on Deadline that you should check out. Even amongst all the craziness, Robert Downey Jr. is still looking to reprise his role as Tony Stark. According to THR, he's currently in negotiations with the studio to come back for The Avengers 2 and 3, but not for a fourth Iron Man movie. Here's what they are reporting...
An analyst suggests that Marvel Studios could lose out on as much as 9 % of their earnings in the near future without Robert Downey Jr. The report goes on to say, "It would be a definite negative for that particular franchise. He is Tony Stark. The other individual franchises -- Thor, Captain America, Hulk -- etc., don’t have near the level of box-office potential that Iron Man does. The other way to look at it is that Iron Man would probably look more like those other franchises in terms of box-office performance without Downey." I have to agree with all of that. Sure Marvel could replace him, but let's face it... Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark.Sources close to the dealmaking say Downey has entered negotiations to reprise his role in Marvel’s The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3, the first of which has a May 1, 2015, release date and will cap what is known as Phase 2 of the Marvel movies in the same way 2012’s Avengers culminated the first Marvel wave that began with 2008’s Iron Man. Avengers 3 has no release date and probably will not hit screens at least until the end of Phase 3, in 2017. But sources say Iron Man 4 has not been part of the discussions, and it’s unclear whether Downey, 48, wants to return for another stand-alone sequel.
The report then adds that the studio has scripts in place for Blade, Ms. Marvel, Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Black Panther, and The Runaways. So that should give us a look at what we have coming to us in Phase 3 and 4 of Marvel's plan.

How much more do the Iron Man movies make compared to the rest..?
Opening weekend for Iron Man 3 alone was 170m compared to avengers opening of 200m IIRC.
Its their own damn fault for putting a RL tony stark in a tony stark role...
edit: was close
IM3: 175m http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment...ening-weekend/
Avengers: http://entertainment.time.com/2012/0...200-3-million/
Worldwide Box Office Grosses:
Iron Man: 585M
Iron Man 2: 623M
Iron Man 3: 740M and rising
Thor: 449M
Captain America: 368M
Incredible Hulk: 263M
So yeah, none of them compared to even the first Iron Man which was the lowest.
IM3 had a bigger opening internationally than Avenger's, though. Article from the 2nd;
http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/02/showbi...hree-china-ew/After only eight days of release, Iron Man 3 has already surpassed the $300 million mark at the international box office — and the $200 million Disney/Marvel release is only getting started.
Driven by a $65.6 million Wednesday gross, Iron Man 3's international total climbed to $307.7 million. For reference, Iron Man 2 earned a $311.5 million international TOTAL back in 2010, and Iron Man 3 will soar right past that figure today. Though the threequel, which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, got off to a faster start than The Avengers overseas (Iron Man 3 opened to $198.4 million; The Avengers bowed with $185.1 million), it will be very tough or Iron Man 3 to match that film's $888.4 million international total. We'll have to wait and see!
Iron Man 3's huge Wednesday at the box office was driven by incredible business in China, where the film earned an estimated $21.5 million yesterday — the best opening day in box office history. Looks like Disney's plan to court favor with Chinese audiences is already paying off. Here's the country-by-country breakdown of how the film is doing so far:

Mexico -- $26.8M
United Kingdom -- $26.8M
France -- $22.6M
