Writer and director Joss Whedon confirmed in a recent interview with <redacted> that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will be included in The Avengers 2 and that Tony Stark will be back for more action. During the interview, he reveals why he's including the brother and sister act in the story saying,

You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.

He then is asked about the return of Tony Stark's Iron Man. This next quote contains spoilers for Iron Man 3, so if you haven't seen the third film yet, then you might not want to read ahead. If you have seen it, then by all means read on...

Well, I feel like in Iron Man 3, even though he said, ‘I’ve changed' -- he blew up his remote suits, but I don’t think anybody thinks he doesn’t have one anymore. The question is, if The Avengers are called, does he show up? And the answer is, ‘Yes!’

I'm with you. Wasn't it part of his monologue at the end when he reiterated that he is Iron Man? Them bringing in Extremis have me seriously thinking come Avengers 2, Iron Man will return with it.

I dunno why but I don't really want to see them in Avengers 2. I think Marvel really needs to tread slowly and introduce things gradually. Throwing characters that break the boundaries of realism might cost them a lot of money and their momentum.

I agree they need to be careful, but hopefully Whedon can pull it off.

I'm not talking about realism. I'm talking about believability. They already pushed the envelope with Thor/Hulk in the movie and pulled it off because of the characters.

This is the Marvel Universe, so of course there are bounds of different heroes that can be shown off with cosmic powers and unrealism. All I'm asking is that they do it gradually rather than just go "HEY CHECK THIS OUT MORE POWAHS".

It's easy to believe, in the confines of current movie continuity, that:
a) Scientist exposed to gamma radiation and genetic experiments can transform into Hulk.
b) Scientist trapped in Afghanistan forced to build weapons to destroy weapons he created.
c) Alien from another world visits Earth and brings bad aliens with him.
d) Man wanting to fight in the Army gets tested on by government and becomes super soldier.
e) Two assassins from a secret world government organization try to kick ass and compare to above members.

It's not as easy to believe:
a) Mutant guy can run OMG SUPER FAST FASTER THAN YOU KNOW CUZ DNA MUTATION
b) THIS BITCH CAN ALTER REALITY WITH HER POWERS

... in context.

It needs to be a gradual realization that the world as we know it is really not what we know. That way when all of this unreal shit starts happening, it's not so sudden.

I really don't see the difference between the first set of things and the second set of things. Sounds like you're coming up with arbitrary parameters for believability.

We've already gone well past the gradual realization that the world isn't really what we know. Thor (and Hulk) started the trend and Avengers hammered the point in.
