those rims are interesting. i wonder if the shape is functional, to move air for cooling or something.

You know the electric movement is getting serious when Harley Davidson is getting in on it.

I'd love to have a Tesla Model X if it didn't rape my bank account.
I believe it's just a design choice (to look cool) - they definitely don't have a function as far as moving air. They used to offer a set of rims they called "Aero" rims that were more aerodynamic and gave a tiny bit of extra range, but they discontinued them early on - unknown why.

I think they're pretty ugly.
not sure if this has been posted or not, saw it on reddit

Still don't know why cars have to go that fast to be good. HP and mileage are more important, no?
depends on what you want to do. if you want to drive from point A to point B as reasonably efficiently as possible, mileage is most important. if you want to tow something, HP and the transmission are most important. if you want to win a race, top speed and handling are most important. if you want to win a drag race, acceleration is most important. if you want to pretend you have a big dick, you buy a car that does the latter two and use it for the former two.
OH SHIT
MUSK FOR GOD
After reports that the drive units in Model Ss were failing at a higher than acceptable rate, Elon Musk just announced that all Teslas now come with an 8-year, INFINITE MILE warranty on their batteries and drive units - including retroactive warranty for any already sold. Ridiculous.

Musk has unveiled the D.
http://www.teslamotors.com/blog/dual...-and-autopilot
All wheel drive Model S, Dual-motor, 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. The fastest 4 door production vehicle in history. Also details autopilot features that can read speed limit signs and lane change for you.
Model 3 unveiled. 215 mile range, autopilot hardware, supercharging, 0-60 in under 6 seconds standard for 35k.
Graduation car confirmed.
So tempted on the Model 3. I wonder if the more expensive version with the biggest batteries can hit 400 mile range.
Doubtful. It'll probably take a 50 or 55 kwh battery to get 215 miles out of the base model, I doubt there will be a triple-digit khw battery option on this smaller platform.
Who knows though, if the Model 3 batteries from the gigafactory are significantly more energy dense, it could happen.

Tesla predicted / planned for only 1/4-1/2 of the pre-orders that they've received so far. They're up to over 250,000 pre-orders.
The tax incentive runs out after 200000 cars have shipped, so it's not unreasonable to think a lot of those pre-orders will be cancelled once they realize they don't get an extra $7,500.
yeah nah the price point jumping from 27,500 to 35,000 will diminish demand by some unspecified quantity but the initial volume is so overwhelming it's clear this is going to easily be the best selling electric car of all time (to such a degree it may very well sell better than every other electric car on the market combined) and sales figures are going to number in the millions with the primary impediment to early adoption being Tesla's limited manufacturing capability
Tesla has done more than make a capable and affordable electric car, they've made the first chic and buzzy electric car, and aesthetic drives the auto industry in a way it does few others
