Only thing those books were good for was the maps and quest info. I think I still have one of em at my parents house sitting in a closet...

Man, when I started FFXI I was on a dial-up. Had to log out of the game (ps2) then log in the computer if I wanted to look up shit. All the while my parents yelling at me for taking up the phone line. Those guides were gods to me.

Hah, I knew so many people that ended up dropping off at the dunes too. I think the only other thing that killed off as many subs were the first limit/genkai/whatever you want to call them items.

Oh my god, I have these books.

I think the second one says King Arthro can cast Waterga VI, you should look it up and post a picture of it.

I still have mine. The maps really were very useful in 2003, when I was constantly lost, heh.

I used to read thosee books next to my brother who played @ launch, since we only had a PS2 and no computer, he would get priority since it was his PS2. He would just ask me questions and since I studied the book I knew every answer :/ Good times.

All I remember about the BradyGames guide was wtf'ing at the subjob recommendations for RDM, and something well beyond wtf'ing at the 'How To Roleplay' cutaway

This was exactly the case for me. Clearing out that old closet at the parent's place

Yeah the maps were definitely good.

man, if i weren't already overflowing with useless crap and not enough space to house it all, i'd be all over the '04 book. i bought that at PS2 launch but lent it out to a friend like a year later and never got it back. i've still got the atlas that came out in 2005, which was entertaining for it's baffling lack of any maps beyond zilart (and possibly missing some zilart ones too), but doesn't quite compare to the full guides.

i wish i knew what happened to the dust jacket that came with that though, it folded out into a poster of that huge amano vanadiel panorama illustration.

My best friend and I shared a set of these guides and lost them ages ago.

Seriously, how much are you looking to get out of these? I'll take both.

    Goddamn, I'm a fucking hoarder.

I just actually packed my FFXI Bradygames guide and Atlas book in a box last week. I used to love them when I was playing on the PS2. I'd take them to work and write down all the updated gear I needed for various jobs I was leveling.

    Holy shit, nostalgia time.

That crappy guide got me through a lot of areas with the maps and crafting recipes, but FUUUUUCK the job advice. BG and such had me wise to such derpitude before I'd hit the Dunes.
