Yeah I'm pretty mad I wasted my time with this anime, yet I still wanna see the last time. Renton looks dumb, imo.

Obviously it didn't match up with the original at all. Half as long and a ton of high expectations, it wasn't ever going to live up to the hype. I still enjoyed it though, and I'm excited to watch the last 2 episodes

The plot didn't budge for a long time too. It mostly went episode to episode until around ep. 18 when it finally started doing something. I also didn't know it was only going to be 24 episodes long, I was expecting 50+ just like the original. Now I'm kinda pissed since I went to look that up.

It doesn't go anywhere for a long time, then it goes everywhere all at once. Can't say the payoff it worth it, because for every interesting minute they have in this anime they spend the other 21 dicking around or trying to make some point.

I do like the animation and style, but story wise it hasn't done much.

What really pisses me off is the only song I really like from this series isn't on the first OST. Fuck multiple release OSTs.

Yeah, they had a lot of fun filler episodes in the original series. But it worked in the original because not only did they have plenty of episodes to fit on random fun episodes, but they had plenty of episodes that progressed the plot along at a good pace. It wasn't all stuffed into the story at the last minute. I mean, did the original need a story of the crew playing soccer or Renton being followed around by Moondoggie doing a random, pointless task? No, not at all, but it was okay because it wasn't 40 episodes of that and 10 episodes of story, haha

    It was super confusing

    Spoiler: show
I ~think~ he shot the first Scub and Secret to travel through time and making it so that didn't happen, thus returning the timeline to normal. I'm pretty sure he only shot the ones from the future as they're the ones who gained time travel, meaning the original scubs that envelope the Earth will still do that and as a result, the events that happen 10,000 years in the future still happen.

At least, that makes the most sense. Anything to do with time travel and alternate universes is always confusing, especially considering that removing the original reason for why Ao is born in the past should theoretically result in him being born in the future instead, but as we see, he's just drifting through time with Truth. But yeah, in ensuring that the scubs will eventually wrap around the Earth, Ao pretty much guaranteed his death via turning into stone like his sister. Pretty sad to think that Renton and Eureka can't ever have kids

Oh i guess that makes sense but unless they manage to somehow stop the first coral to actually travel in time to the past i think this situation would repeat itself, oh nvm since trappar gun is made of sharingans it deletes the presence of those things from the past present and future still... it's not like it was the only one to travel in time fuck i'm thinking this too much. About Ao petrifying, don't you remember Renton forced Eureka to give birth on the past earth because the quantity of trapar there is muuuch lower than the one from the future? that means that in a world w/o trapar he isn't gonna get turned into stone.

About Ao turning to stone, I figured since they're letting the normal course of actions take place, as opposed to Renton and Eureka destroying all the scub corals, it would mean the scubs would take over the planet as it normally did, and thus increasing the amount of trapar as the scub coral spreads making the story seem like Ao sacrificed his own life to give Renton and Eureka their lives/future back despite losing another child in the process. And yeah, there are definitely a lot of plotholes with just getting rid of the original lol. Maybe the gun altered the history enough to make it so that the scubs couldn't travel through time at all, as opposed to just the original not traveling through time? I dunno, lol

The story is all sorts of messed up and bizarre. But the animation is top-notch and the feels from finding out Renton and Eureka's motivations and why everything happened made it worthwhile for me at least. The setup is fantastic, the execution is so~so and the conclusion is all sorts of open-ended.

    Ending Speculation:
    Spoiler: show
Not sure what actually happened, but it seemed like Ao erased Secrets from the world? Or at least the Scub Burst thing, which would explain why Naru of the new world didn't get infected or something? In doing that he returned the timeline back to the original Eureka 7 so what we see in the truncated version of new world history is what happened way before in Eureka 7. Or not, I don't actually know.

I don't think it's a world without the Scub Corals, otherwise the original could never have happened. Not sure what happens to Ao in that sense, but I guess he's still drifting through time like Eureka did, cause that's what Truth seemed to be doing. Or maybe Ao still being around is just Hollywood bullshit, aside from Ao saying he didn't know how long he would last so technically anything is possible.

Overall it didn't feel like much happened except for the last two episodes. I didn't think the series setup well enough for this finale, as many characters feel pointless and ultimately don't help lead to much of a conclusion when taking the scope of the whole series into account. It seems the main reason for them is to justify Ao's actions at the end.

    Ending:
    Spoiler: show
Also sucks that the ending didn't really show what any of the characters did or even hinted at their activities/lifestyle apart from Japan and Okinawa finally getting their peace treaty/independence or whatever (which is probably the most boring aspect of this series). I will agree that the Eureka/Renton stuff was great, but too little too late and they shouldn't have waited until the end of the series to do some serious callbacks.

I can't say I recommend this show to anyone who's seen and loved Eureka 7, but if you like amazing animation, art and music it's worth a look. It's hugely disappointing considering how good a true sequel could've been.

    I agree with you entirely.

    Spoiler: show
My one speculation as to the scub corals also being eradicated from history along with the secrets is that when Truth was hit with the Quartz gun, he came back as an Archetype without any rhyme or reason as to why or how. That being said, then perhaps if/when Ao erased the secrets and scub coral, it somehow created a universe where Eureka exists and is a human, thus making it possible for her and Renton to have kids. But yeah, this is purely speculation and would completely nullify the entirety of the original series lol.

I think had they brought into focus the issues of Renton and Eureka and time traveling and blah blah at least halfway through the season, they could have fleshed it out and made it deeper and actually coherent, compared to the ridiculously quick wrap-up we got in 2 episodes. In the original, Eureka was revealed as a coralian early on and the entirety of the series fleshed out the issues surrounding her, Renton's love of her, the scub corals, the affects on the planet, the people pulling strings in the shadows, and... well... everything.

In this sequel, it was more or less 22 episodes of "hey... hey... something is going on here... something isn't right... but we're not going to explain anything besides a couple incredibly subtle and vague hints" with 2 episodes of "HERE'S THE DEAL EVERYONE!!!!". I mean yeah, we found out around like episode 17 that the timeline was screwed up and the conflict of who was fucking everything up arose, and there were hints of Ao having a sister. But yeah, it wasn't delved into nearly enough to really make the story hearty and enjoyable like the original.

Overall, I liked it to an extent, but wasn't in love with it

You pretty much sumed up all my feelings lol.

I guess they didn't show what were the others doing because 1- They waited too long to start explaining stuf and they had no time 2- They were lazy 3- Most of the people would be having a normal and boring life (Remember team Goldilocks baking bread? yeah) since no scub burst happened (Elena wouldn't even be at that time, it was Eureka who brought her there if i remember correctly). Ao kinda sacrifices himself negating any chance to live with his parents but i take the last scene as a bit of hope for him to have a normal life because there isn't any trappar yet but since we really don't know when will the first Scub Coral appear we can only speculate.

Anyways weren't they also doing a manga out of it? maybe that can explain things better.

The original E7 manga diverged from the anime and had it's own plot after a certain point. I wasn't a big fan of that manga, but if the manga for this series diverges as well, it might be pretty good lol

Mangastream did some chapters but once the anime started they stopped translating i think they still have some chapters up.
