ME3 was nowhere near as bad as DA2 was, honestly.
ME3 was amazing, except for 10 minutes. DA2 should have been its own game and not a numbered sequel. Should have been "Dragon Age: Hawk's Story" or some bullshit. I hope they go back to origins formula.
TBF DA2 was pretty weak and ME3 had a kind of disappointing ending* but they were both head and shoulders above 90% of the bullshit out there that people expect us to buy
if you haven't played DA2, it's some of the best $12 you can spend at Gamestop right now!
Good and bad games come and go, but I will probably end up remembering Dragon Age 2 as being the only recent Bioware game to actually succeed at being funny, when appropriate, and the sparing, not-at-all-anime-zany use of three-dimensional comic relief characters is a big part of what made the old Black Isle games what they were (Morte: great character or greatest character?). So yeah; I guess I don't think DA2 gets enough credit for what it does right (Varric) even if that's not enough to carry the game.
*I would argue that a cleaner ending would have undermined the amount of narrative legwork put in to building up the Reapers as a completely undefeatable enemy but I'm not interested in doing so with anybody crazy enough to let ME3's ending ruin the entire series for them
I think what pissed most people off about DA2 was the fact that it could have been truly fantastic. The bones were there. The story was decent enough. The voice acting was top notch. The lack of customization really hurt it. And the hack and slash combat system was just terrible. It was made more appealing to get more people to buy it. As a result it alienated the fans that loved the original DA.
I was more offended what they did with Haste in DA 2, in terms of combat. Fuck that shit, I want super speed at all times.
Spoiler: show

http://thesilentchief.com/2012/10/21...s-and-artwork/During a panel held at the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo this weekend, BioWare shared additional details on the third installment to its Dragon Age franchise.
Producer Cameron Lee was live-tweeting from the panel and passed along the below information:
Cinematic Designer John Perry stated that he’s had a longer pre-production on Inquisition than any other BioWare project he’s worked on. Giving fans an idea on just how large a project Dragon Age 3 is, Perry also mention that one level in Dragon Age 3 is as big as all of the levels found in the second game.
Creative Director Mike Laidlaw revealed that customization in Inquisition is going to be “bigger than Dragon Age Origins”. It appears that the only playable race in the game will be human as implied by Laidaw’s comment:
Sorry, for those who love elves and dwarves, but long term I’d like to see all four races playable. Future plans!
More customization, only playable race is human. lol?
Bioware needs to just stop. lol
Those do not appear to be incompatible statements. I think i'd rather have one super-customisable race than 4 meh-customisable ones.
Will be interesting to see whether they try and go back to DA1 roots at all with this game, minus the buggyness and the associated problems that came with biowares first wave of games on this gen, it really filled a niche that has been missed a lot this generation.
Ugh. Probably too soon to get me worried, but they're not really inspiring confidence.
Not touching with a ten foot pole.
The thing I loved about Origins was the depth of story. I really felt like the choices I made impacted the narrative; there was a very real sense of the consequences to my actions. I'm afraid only being able to play as human will limit the various points in the game where the story can fork. I'm hoping they'll offer the choice of varying backstories instead of like in DA2 where you were always Hawke and he always had the same start and the only variation was which throwaway sibling died. Limiting the starting race seems unfortunately closer to how they handled DA2 than DA:O, but I still think they could create variety if they chose to.
I'm still optimistic for this game (unless the giant map they keep referencing as "bigger than all of DA2 combined" is the Fade).
I have to believe. It's tiresome replaying BG, IWD, etc.
Loved DA:O, played through pretty much every storyline. Game was really intense and fun on the hardest difficulty. Played and beat DA2, said "that's it?" and never touched it again. My expectations for the new Dragon Age are super low, will be reading multiple reviews before I even think about purchasing the game to make sure it's not like DA2 or a really crappy version of Skyrim.
