Already commented on the discussion thread, but this is probably worthy of its own thread because as I said over there it's probably the single biggest economy-impacting event since they added Abyssea. There's going to be so much QQ on the OF, I can't even imagine. I'm sure it's started already.

Effectively destroying the link between cruor and gil. All items which could be bought with cruor and sold for gil can either no longer be sold, or, as in the SS above, have had their sale value dramatically dropped (original sale value on Chocobo Blinkers was around 520-530 gil, so it's been cut by over 85%).

    - The prices when selling the following items to NPCs have changed:
Stamina Apple / Spore Bomb / Chocobo Taping / Chocobo Blnk / Shadow Roll / Chocobo Hood / Grauberg Greens / Sharug Greens / Azouph Greens

    - The following items can no longer be sold to NPCs:
Perle Solerets / Aurore Gaiters / Teal Pigaches / Perle Salade / Aurore Beret / Teal Chapeau / Perle Moufles / Aurore Gloves / Teal Cuffs / Perle Hauberk / Aurore Doublet / Teal Saio / Perle Brayettes / Aurore Brais / Teal Slops
Some other adjustments to Meeble Burrows and other odds and ends, but this is by far the most important part of it.

I never did that anyway, so ok. Thanks for the reply though.

I'm not really surprised they did it, but I'm still somewhat in shock. There are so many people that's been relying on converting cruor to gil, in massive amounts too, and a lot of them are probably sitting on millions of cruor right now.

That is quite frustrating even though I only have ~3mil cruor.

No kidding. I only used it for occasional lunch money (I don't believe in relying on just "selling the colibri feathers" for my gil; I have more than one way to make it). I even got a friend sitting on millions of cru and he's kicking himself for not cashing it in sooner.

Bet there will be more people doing salvage and dyn now for monies, mostly dyn and getting into crafting.

11m+ in cru atm, hating the world right now.

Good thing I have ebisu's to fall back on — but that's next, right?

It was a terrible, terrible design oversight by the Abyssea development team to allow a direct link between cruor and gil. Not even that it was just a direct link between cruor and gil, but one that actually generated ridiculously large amounts of new gil into circulation. It's not surprising that someone on the dev team finally decided to get rid of that link, but it is very surprising that it took so long to do so. Based on the higher amount of RMT tells I've been getting recently, I have a feeling there has been a recent surge of RMT cruor/gil related activity that led to this.

This changes so much, though, as far as farming goes. It sets an entirely new standard for what baseline gil/hour farming should be, and it will relocate RMT activity to whatever the new best easy method will be. I dread to think that it might turn out to be Dynamis.

Now that is a scary thought - rmts in dynamis. But yes, this will most likely have a huge impact on us all one way or another - personally I think it sucks, I never did cruor burns or anything of the sort, my cruor has been kind of a nest egg for me whenever I've been low on gil - like I am now as you all can see in my screenshot. This will make buying plates that much more of a pain in the ass too.

This really shouldn't have come off as a surprise. Those RMT tells are quite telling.

I don't think that losing cruor -> gil was necessarily a good thing for anyone in the FFXI economy:
    http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/104...=1#post4578382

There are a lot of people without a side business in game that makes them gil. Plenty of people don't have time (or the willpower) to farm, and now they won't have gil to buy food. I think there were a lot of different ways to address this issue and I don't believe SE picked a smart one. They should have limited cruor farming (eliminate chaining, reduce the max from silver light to ~50 cruor/kill) while adding gil sinks that mostly hit high-end players (like the final Meebles boss, or they could make currency directly buyable from goblins guild-style).

The way they chose to implement this hurts the casuals the most. It was poorly thought out.

Also, I think you guys are waaay overestimating the number of "RMT" that are still around and actively farming crap. The only Chinese farming operation I can think of on Lakshmi is the pay-cleaves, and I suspect fewer and fewer people will be using those now that the cruor they yield isn't worth a shit.

back to : yellow curry buns for the average joe. On the good side it might make people farm and make the AH work again. I wish they nerf npc fish resell too. But yeah, popcorn.

I'm sure it was thought out on some level and was just determined to be the simplest means to the end they were looking for. The reason I suspect that RMT activity has increased lately is that until about four months ago, I'm fairly sure I went about a year without getting any RMT tells at all. I've received at least 15-20 in the last 4-5 months.

It does make you wonder what's going on over there with the dev team though. On the one hand you have something like Meeble Burrows which has drawn casuals out of the woodwork to white knight SE all over the OF wherever someone bashes the 20 hour timer since apparently imposing restrictions on how often you can do stuff is casual-friendly (read: hardcore-unfriendly is casual-friendly). And then on the other hand you get this, which hurts casuals more than anyone else (I personally couldn't really care less, but I can foresee a major economic impact followed by the potential loss of a not insignificant number of casual players, which affects everyone).

Yeah, but the traditional "RMTs" aren't farming the gil they're selling. It's people like this guy:
    http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/112...=1#post5438428

Effectively players selling to other players through an RMT fence. Not "I can't claim Mee Deggi because of this damned RMT"-style RMT farming.

As far as SE's design philosophy for the game... lets just say that it's consistent in its inconsistency.

Funny, we just had a similar problem to this in FFXIV where you could convert grand company seals into gil by purchasing items at a counter for seals and then npc'ing them. It effectively caused massive price hikes. It last three weeks before SE fixed it in the same fashion. Silly SE...

The gil conversion on blinkers has gone from 1 cruor = 2.6 gil to 1 cruor = 0.335 gil, i.e. 1,000,000 cruor = 335,000 gil. So, if you can get someone to pay more than 67,000 gil per brew, then yeah, brews will be the best way. If not... 335,000 gil per million cruor is the new cash-out standard. Considering the time to acquire a million cruor and the time to turn in the blinkers, that's not much of a standard at all and will be easy to beat elsewhere.

I get an RMT tell every few hours nowadays, with the price of gil lower every week.

Can't imagine you'll have an easy time selling brews for much of anything after this, if you can even find buyers.
