-On Friday November 16th at noon PST (20:00 GMT) the weekend will kick off with an Event in Lion’s Arch that you don’t want to miss. This will trigger events in other parts of Tyria as well.
-On Saturday November 17th at noon PST (20:00 GMT), another phase will kick in.
Each phase is triggered by a special event, but you will be able to enjoy additional content afterwards even if you cannot make the kick-off time. There is one exception:
The event will culminate in a big Finale on Sunday November 18, make sure you will not miss it. This will be a onetime only event chain that will run multiple hours, and it will kick off at noon PST (20:00 GMT). Again, this will only run once, so make sure you will be there! There will be plenty of content available to enjoy that will remain permanently in the world as a result of the outcome of this event on Sunday.
We will give you more details once we get closer to the event, but wanted to give you an early heads up so you can plan accordingly.
PRE-EVENT FLAVOR
Spoiler: show
There are multiple pieces of decor and new landmarks around Lion's Arch, including beached whales, Old Krytan posters, and new boats moored in the harbors.
There's also a new building featuring an Asura Gate, possibly our portal to the new island.
FULL TIME EVENTS
Spoiler: show
New Level 80 Explorable Zone
A new zone called "Southsun Cove" will be added with the Lost Shores event.
New Endgame Dungeon
A new dungeon will be introduced through the Lost Shores event, "Fractals of the Mists".
*Features nine paths to explore. Each path features its own unique story and environment.
*Upon entry, the party will be randomly assigned to three of these nine paths.
*Once all three paths have been completed, the party will be brought to the main dungeon lobby, where they will have the opportunity to repair and sell items from the previous three paths. There is no time limit.
*Each time the party completes a set of three paths, the difficulty of the dungeon is enhanced and they will be sent to another three paths.
*For every three sets of paths completed, the party will have to face a special boss encounter of massive scale, similar to dragon events.
*You will be able to set your difficulty level before re-entering the dungeon.
The dungeon will also feature a new mechanic called Agony. Monsters will be able to apply Agony in the form of a condition. As you descend deeper into the dungeon's difficulty, this new condition will grow in strength. Its effects entail a very powerful damage over time effect that can not be cleansed and removes percentages of your HP rather than set numbers per tic. Eventually players will reach a point where some form of mitigation towards Agony is a must to continue deeper. The only way to mitigate its effects will be through rarer versions of Ascended items and special defensive infusions.
New PvP Map
A new PvP map will be added with the Lost Shores event, "Temple of the Silent Storm".
*Takes place on a Kodan Dojo Sanctuary.
*The map is vertical. Teams will have to fight their way up the map to capture points, as with any other PvP map.
*Players will receive buffs while they maintain control of points.
*In addition to normal point capture, there will be a powerful boss at the top of the map. The team that successfully defeats the boss will gain control of every point on the map.
SPECIAL ONE TIME EVENTS
Spoiler: show
Sidekicking
All non-level 80 participants, including Friend Referral trial characters, will be allowed to temporarily bump up to level 80 so that they may participate in the Lost Shores events. It will not, however, be contained only to the Lost Shores events. This feature will be temporarily available during the course of the event only.
The Lost Shores Event
The event will be a string of one-time only events that revolve around a new type of enemy, the Karka.
*These new enemies will feature new mechanics, leading to part of the event being a race around Tyria to find a way to be able to damage them.
*As you progress and begin to damage the Karka, new shader effects will kick in and show visible points of damage on the Karka's thick shells.
The event string will begin in Lion's Arch where players will have to defend the city against a massive force of Karka.
*Players will be responsible for defending the city and pushing the invasion force out.
*In addition, players will have to begin learning about the Karka, their motives, and their weaknesses.
Additional parts of the event will be added in as they begin and are announced.
REWARDS
Spoiler: show
Permanently Obtainable Rewards
New Item Quality Level
Fractals of the Mists will feature a new quality of item as its main set of rewards, "Ascended" quality.
*Ascended quality items are slightly more powerful than Exotics.
*All Ascended items come with their respective enhancements already attached to the main piece. As such, there is no conventional gem slot.
*Initially, there will be only Rings and Back accessories added with Ascended quality. Rings will be obtained from Fractals of the Mists, while back accessories will be created via new Mystic Forge recipes.
*Ascended items are the step in between Exotic and Legendary. Exotic -> Ascended -> Legendary. Therefore, when Ascended weaponry is released, all Legendary weapons will be made to match Ascended weapons in strength. There are currently no plans to enhance the power of Legendary weapons beyond that of Ascended weapons.
Infusions
Ascended quality items will feature a new slot in place of a gem slot, "Infusion" slots.
*The exact specifications of Infusion enhancements are currently unknown.
*There were be several types of infusions and infusion slots. Initially, there will be Offensive, Defensive, and Omni Infusions of Fine rarity.
*Infusions will be obtained from new Mystic Forge recipes.
*In order to slot an Infusion into your piece of Ascended gear, the infusion type will have to match the infusion slot. I.E., you may only slot an Offensive Infusion into an Offensive Infusion slot. The exception will be rare, versatile Omni Infusions that may be slotted into any Infusion slot.
Currently, ArenaNet plans to release more types of Ascended Gear along with new and higher quality Infusions with each batch of new end game content that will be coming in the future. There is no mention of further gear tiers being added, only new Ascended items being put into each new end game update. Presumably, they will expand on Ascended items via different types of Infusion slots, different stat combos, and of course by adding the remaining accessories, armors, and weapons to the Ascended list.
Temporary Event-Only Rewards
Will be filled in as the event unfolds.
