I haven't watched a show with that visual style since KareKano in the 90s.
What's to sell, it's basically what you hate already so there's little point in trying. Reading the Chihayafuru topic won't do much but show you the enthusiasm of those who've already seen it. And the art style works very well and it's animated nicely, but none of that matters if it isn't to your taste.

I dunno what else to say.

The topic is certainly frothy but there isn't a lot of substance or discussion there.

Don't get me wrong, I thought Slam Dunk was pretty engaging, but if Chihayafuru doesn't tread any new ground then I'll pass.

Just watch the first episode and judge for yourself. Don't know why we have to convince you =/

Ugh, last time I did that I put up with an hour's worth of Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai. It's not a lot to ask people to sum up a series from their own perspective in an Anime discussion thread.

We already have been. Plus everything said here. I dunno what else to tell you about the show buddy.

Edit: And all the chatter about the show in the original Fall thread when it first aired.

Lemme put it this way, if you like drama, comedy, d'aww moments, suspense and romance, Chihayafuru does it all and it does it all very well (along with nice art, anims and music). It has the stylings of shoujo without all of the bullshit that goes around it, it has a "I wanna be the best" but takes no liberties or shortcuts getting there, and it's school club activities in-so-much that it's a lifestyle and it doesn't feel like it's centered on the club, but the sport itself (none of this being unique, but it's nice to see it all at the same time).

I thought Slam Dunk was pretty amazing and it is, but Chihayafuru is amazing in that it doesn't need to slap you in the face like a basketball shonen manga/anime might. It's more subtle, but no less explosive when it needs to be. It's realistic enough to make you never doubt what you see, but there are elements of fiction that make it more interesting (and are more slow cooked and balanced than other shows).

I think 3 episodes of Chihayafuru is enough to get a good impression of what's going on. I think that covers Chihaya's childhood and how she gets into Karuta.

Other than Chihaya I give zero shits about anything on that list. Good thing I'll have Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Robotics;Notes to help see me through to spring.

I've noticed that of the majority of the shows I cling to, they also tend to get Americanized names. What would Chihayafuru even translate to? Because that apparently helps catch my interest. This season I've been watching Magi, SAO, and Btooom, granted the last isn't really a word. Prior to that, you'd get things like FMA, Stein's;Gate, Darker Than Black, Deadman Wonderland, and other things that seem to get more viewing around her even if Zilong finds it appropriate to snub.

Edit: Plus I'm just sick of school settings. Don't so much mind kids being in their late teens, but fuck school.

It would be impossible to translate because there are multipule double meanings in it. Whoever localizes it will have to keep the name, or change it completly.

I'd chalk it on coincidence, but I really don't see the point on trying to sell something to someone that already have predisposition toward hating it.

And tbh, I love most of the shit you listed, short of Deadman, SAO and Btoom...

ok, I love a little over half the series you listed.

Marvelous AQL are expanding Senran Kagura to other forms of media outside of videogames. The franchise already has various manga series running in Japan, and next on the list is an anime series set to debut in early 2013.

Anime News Network report that the Senran Kagura anime will begin airing in Japan on January 6th at 8pm JST. The series will debut on the AT-X channel.

Here's a better chart, obtained via Cart Driver. (Still, the most accurate will be any v2 from cowboybibimbop or moetron, when they show up)

    Definite:
    Maoyuu Maou Yuusha

    Maybe:
    Senyuu
Mondaijitachi ga Isekai kara Kuru sou desu yo?
Senren Kagura (Likely winner of Gulk award)

I'll withhold forecasting until late December

Why is everyone forgetting Hellsing Ultimate Volume 10?

    Cuticle Detective Inaba
Beside Hellsing and Maoyuu, it's the 3rd show I'm looking forward to.

    She's also a Langololier.

But yeah, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha at least gives the season something for me. Senyuu's art seems a bit off-putting, but it could be a poorly placed still. Had to lul at the Train Hero image pick, though.
