nah psure it's in their blood to steal things
To be fair, we did steal them first.
Technically, they stole each other and sold them to the upstanding white traders, but when the white traders realized that the people in Africa would be in the same place they were then 400 years later they just said fuck it, when in Rome.
True, but it's not like slavery was anything new to them. You just couldn't enslave other white Christians and the Muslim world had long since become strong enough that they were off limits (one of the reasons the Europeans wanted a western passage to begin with).
Everyone enslaved everyone. To the victor go the spoils, its just that there was never an outright "war" between the "White guys coming to take you for slavery" and the "Black guys defending their homeland from aggressors".
Shit was whack all around.
Everyone practiced slavery yea, but there were always rules about who you could enslave.
Christians and Muslims enslaved each other until the Arab world had caught up to the Europeans enough that it wasn't worth the trouble. The African tribes were easy prey and fair game, no chance of fighting the Europeans, no one to back them up, and no interest in uniting to resist them. Like Church pointed out they were more than happy to sell each other out, to them it seemed like a win-win. Rival tribe goes away and they get a finder's fee.

Question on this, how can states pass legislation that says that their laws surpass federal ones when one of the tenants of being in the union is that federal law trumps your own laws? Wouldn't this also be grounds for cutting all federal funding to the state if they don't abolish this?
Lawmakers like to pass these so when elections come, they can get re-elected. Its not like they have to pay the legal fees personally when the federal government sues the state. Plus there will be a period of time between the federal law changing and any sort of action taking place in the state where Missouri can live in 2nd ammendment heaven.
Honestly... what's the point of the fed suing a state? I think the threat of pulling the plug on funding should be sufficient. Especially in one of the greatest taker states in the union.
It's the mechanism by which laws are codified. The government sues or the state (or vise-versa), the law is reviewed by the judicial state arm, and can be appealed to the federal judicial arm.
It's simply a mechanism is all that takes the choice out of the legislature and compares it against the constitution and other other applicable laws.

Nothing about the Santa Monica college mass shooting today? I'm driving, someone quote an article in here.

LOS ANGELES — At least one person was killed and five were injured in an outbreak of gunfire near Santa Monica College on Friday afternoon as a man dressed in black sprayed buildings, passing cars and a bus with bullets, the police and witnesses said.
The police said a suspect was taken into custody. There was no immediate word on his identity or whether he had been injured.
The shooting took place about 10 minutes away from where President Obama was attending a private fund-raising lunch before heading for Palm Springs for a meeting with the president of China.
Authorities and witnesses described a chaotic scene as the gunman moved quickly through the campus and the nearby streets on a bright June afternoon.
Joe Orcutt, who works at the bursar’s office, said he went out to investigate after hearing what he first thought was a car backfiring and then realizing it was gunshots. Mr. Orcutt said he saw the man dressed in black walking down the street and holding a gun, and people fleeing in fear.
“He turns and points his gun at me, and at that point I jumped out of the way,” he said. “He shot and I ducked out of the way.”
Witnesses described racing out the back door of the library after the armed man walked in and opened fire. “I didn’t want to take any chances,” said Cyrus Jappari, 19, a freshman at Santa Monica College.
There was no immediate report on whether anyone was seriously injured. The college – along with schools in the area – was put on lockdown as an army of law enforcement officials swarmed the streets.
Apparently he shot two people to death in a house, lit the home on fire, and then went to the college, shooting people along the way. Up to 6 dead now (not sure if that is counting the shooter, who was killed by police.)
6 dead, plus the shooter.
Crazy fucks
Murdered his father and brother with an AR15, set their house on fire, then made his way west on Pico killing people at random, ended up run into SMC's library where police brought him down.
I go to SMC and was supposed to be on campus today. I would have been in the library when this was all happening. I'm so glad today was not a mandatory day for me. My heart goes out to everyone that was affected by this.
Crazy of all the places to run to, he chose the library. It is only like 200 feet away from the campus police station.
I also have not been able to get in touch with a classmate who was on campus today. I really hope she is ok.
