I hate the fact that I even have to ask this:

Can my employer force me to come in to work (come in or your fired) even though I have the flu?

I work at a hotel, so high amount of contact with others. I'm more interested in the legal aspect since this may sadly come up.

It depends on a variety of factors: Company policy, state law, "essential" nature of your job, etc. If you don't have a doctor's note though, he can force you absolutely. If you have a doctor's note it becomes more unclear.

Thanks for the info. I ended up calling my boss this morning. She doesn't care that I'm contagious (its ok, they'll just use hand sanitizer) and still wants me to come in. I managed to get one extra day off at least.

The meningococcal meningitis vaccine was like $300. I wasn't gonna live in a dorm or frat house or an otherwise unsanitary shitty living conditions. And my doctor told me the risk of infection in America tends to be 1 in 100,000. So I was like, yeah, I'll save that $300. And I haven't gotten it yet so I feel pretty good about my decision.

Wow, they wanted you to pay for it? When I was in college there was a meningitis outbreak so they offered the vaccine for free for all students who wanted it. I forget all the details, but I definitely remember getting the shot (it was by "hypospray," not needle) and not having to pay for it.

The season has started earlier, and cases are more severe than last year, health officials say.
The latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention flu advisory report, which covers the week of December 23 to 29, suggests that 41 states have widespread influenza activity, which was an increase of 31 states from the previous week. The CDC will issue an update on the flu situation Friday.
There have so far been 2,257 hospitalizations associated with laboratory-confirmed flu virus, the CDC report said. Among children, there have been 18 deaths reported during this season. Various state agencies also are compiling statistics on flu-related deaths.
This is only about week five in a 12-week flu season, according to Fauci.
"Remember, once it peaks, you still have a considerable amount of time where there is a lot of flu activity, and right now it may have peaked in some places, but for the most part, it has not yet peaked," he said.

This past September i told my doctor that i had not had a shot since elementary school, and she looked at me with a wtf face, and asked if my college knew. Apparently i some how slipped through the cracks because I am missing who know how many vaccination's. i get sick once every couple of years, and even then it is usually not bad. So no i will not be getting a flu shot.
