War with NK is NEVER. GOING. TO. HAPPEN. They're not crazy enough to use whatever nuclear capabilities they've gleaned from Russian dinner napkins from the 60s and no one else wants to invade a country that will inevitably become a leech on them for decades afterward.

Kim and co. will continue middling about in their little neverland, barely surviving off foreign aid, counterfeiting US currency, and selling meth (not joking) until someone in the military usurps the government (probably with foreign aid), after which they'll become a certified international welfare state rather than just a functional one as they are now.
SK polling disagrees with your assessment of reunification. They would greatly prefer reunification even if some hardship was involved. There is some evidence that it would only be as bad as German reunification (lack of transportation, defensible border and massive preparations ensure this), and also the leadership style of traditional South Korea would probably keep both populations generally in line.

The other side of that coin is that the desire for reunification lies in the older age groups, and public opinion on the issue has been trending against reunification since the 90's. Just a couple of days ago the following article came out, highlighting the generational divide on the issue:

58% of college students oppose reunification

It makes sense. Newer generations obviously won't feel as much of an attachment to the North as their older relatives who may even still have siblings there.

There would definitely be a humanitarian crisis in the North (there already is one), but there is for the most part no way to get from the North to the South. The military are the only ones with any real means of transportation. The DMZ is completely guarded, so they could control the flow of people, and the South has massive preparations, military and humanitarian preparations. Most of the North would try to flee to China. After the instability of the collapse, the South (and the rest of the world) would quickly flood the North with development dollars, and you would have massive construction projects within months.

I believe this is probably the most likely scenario for what happens after the collapse, as long as the military in the North is given amnesty for any crimes against humanity.

It's like you don't even need to parody North Korea, it's already so much an exaggerated caricature of a country.

According to Jang — a former counterintelligence official and poet laureate under Kim Jong-il — members of the government's Organization and Guidance Department (OGD), a powerful group of officials that once reported only to Kim Jong-il, have stopped taking orders from his son, Kim Jong-un. The OGD, Jang says, has effectively taken control of the country, and a conflict is simmering between factions that want to maintain absolute control over the economy and others seeking to gain wealth through foreign trade and a slightly more open market.
