I didn't know this was an NA only game. We should inform Japan of this.

And if you're gonna attempt to be a smartass and make a blanket statement like "PS2 Adoulin was confirmed long ago", don't get pissy when you're called out on it and look stupid. And it's not NA only, it's NA/EU/JP, and the bolded clearly states that that 2 out of 3 of those regions are not getting the PS2 version. You know, the majority.
PS2 players in regions that won't be getting a PS2 release are, by nature of being, PS2 players that won't be joining us in Adoulin. I wish you better luck in your future endeavors.
The most stubborn PS2 players won't, but I know one that is swapping to PC just for Adoulin. Another I know is swapping to Xbox 360. So we may not lose them all; some may hop systems just for Adoulin. (I wrote a guide on Alla and on FFXI AH for that reason.)
I'm curious on a percentage and actual numbers basis how many people still play exclusively on PS2 in each region. I'm sure SE knows the answer to this and obviously whatever the number is makes it prohibitive to publish the game in NA and EU... would be interesting to know, though.
I'm on PS2 in NA.
What I don't understand is why they can't do a download release of the expansion for NA/EU PS2 players. I'd take the time for a big download, rather than have nothing at all.
I'll probably have to switch to PC eventually, but I'm not going to be able to put one together in time for the expansion's launch.
Are you posting on a PC that's been made in the last decade? If so, are you sure it can't run FFXI?
Yes, I've tried. It ran poorly enough as to be unplayable.
Do not underestimate the shittyness of an integrated graphics laptop. On paper it you'd believe it'd work, but in practice, oh boy it doesn't.
It may have been built in 2007, but it generally can't reliably play games made after 2000.
I have a laptop that was built in 2001~2, and it plays XI fine.. How yours does not, is beyond me.
I was also thinking the same thing. The laptop must be absolutely loaded with shit for it to not really work. And/or you are trying to force it to run in "hd" mode when 640x480 is really better than nothing lol
Yeah I had a laptop from around 2000 that played FFXi just fine in the second to lowest settings. Played it great in NES mode but fuck that.
While it is shitty, I play on an integrated graphics laptop just fine with decent enough settings, even with DrawDistance.
The only things I really do are filter out are number of models on the screen and effects on everyone that not me or in my party to cut down on slowdown.
I was a PS2 NA player, and when they announced that there would be no support for Seekers on it, I was cranky for a day then went on line and bought a old rental computer for $40. Picked up a nice screen at a Christmas sale for $80, and a UBS logitech controller, and pulled a keyboard and mouse out of the pile of extras I have about.
I was up and running on a PC in no time, even with a full install and patch. And it cost less then a new XBox or PS3 would have cost. Hell it cost less then the PS2+Harddrive did back in '04.
I'm still optimizing the display and performance, but it's already a better experience then my PS2.
So now instead of my dedicated PS2 to play, I have a PC that was probably in some cube farm for a few years, and is now dedicated to the game in my house now.
It's not hard to make the jump. Just annoying.
I had been using PS2 just to not wear down my current laptop (which is very old and borrowed) but since the last update the lag makes the ps2 look like a cartoon flipbook and blacks out just by popping Qilin.
Also why must we be engaged in order to keep all battle effects off?
I also agree with it being a big inconvenience seeing as SE has servers to host the files and the users to pay for it.
NA PS2'ers can only hope they're keeping it on the down low and the banner to buy will show up on PS2.
It's not that simple. In fact, it's more expensive to support an obsolete technology (which the PlayStation 2 is), and the related avenues of data delivery. They're restricted by caps put in place by the proprietor (Sony), who has no reason to regularly evaluate and adjust their criteria, hardware, etc., because their put-to-pasture system has no other titles with a reasonably healthy online userbase. It is surely a cordial professional relationship, but not a desired one, and not a prioritized one.
It also removes resources and options from the more efficient options, most notably computers'.
Truthfully, that Square Enix has continued to support the PlayStation 2 base at all is due to only one thing: the large amount of Japanese players who stubbornly stick to the system (as they are, by far, the majority). Nothing more, nothing less. That they are finally moving away from holding PlayStation 2 users will be beneficial to the game and every last thing related to it, except in the eyes of those who still want to use their PS2s.
Yeah I actually dual box with my laptop from like 2003 sometimes still. God is that shit laggy but hey when I'm on vacation and no other way to get my ffxi fix... so be it lol
