Yeah, rum and coke is very common.
If you're looking for a full-flavored beer, give http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/142/99/ a shot. It's my personal favorite.
For something easy to find on the shelf, the first beer I thought truly tasted good was Guiness Draught. That's a dry stout and as such a dark beer which doesn't seem to be that popular if you're used to pilsners. I'd really just read on the different styles of beer and try them to see what you like. Personally I've never really found a pale ale I've liked while those are popular with a lot of people too.
Cap'n and ginger ale is a tasty drink too if you don't go heavy on the rum.
Shit that reminds me if you just want the shortcut to becoming an alcoholic mix sweet tea and jameson and say goodbye to all of your aspirations.
jesus christ your beer suggestions are fucking awful, every one from yuengling to dos equis to whatever the fuck.
Captain and Arizona Sweet Tea is pretty legit; guy i work with powers through those every time we get together.
Funky Cold Medina.
This brother told me a secret,
On how to get more chicks.
Put a little Medina in your glass,
And the girls will come real quick.
It's better than any alcohol,
Or aphrodisiac.
A couple of sips of this love potion,
And she'll be on your lap.
So I gave some to my dog,
When he began to beg.
Then he licked his bowl and looked at me,
And did the Wild Thing on my leg.
He used to scratch and bite me.
Before he was much, much meaner.
But now all the poodles run to my house,
For the Funky cold Medina.
Jeremiah sweet tea vodka and sprite or ginger ale
Guinness Draught is also a good beer to start with.
I had a shot of Southern Comfort with a Sprite chaser on New Year's. One of the only drinks I've ever had that actually tasted good, instead of just tolerable. Doctor McGillicuddy's Cherry Schnapps mixed with Sprite was another one, and Coconut Malibu, although I was already drunk when I started drinking that one, so who knows if I'd actually like it sober. I've also had some wines that I liked, mostly whites but a couple reds. Haven't really done too much with wines, though.
Alas, the guts do not approve of alcohol or caffeine so my choices are limited and the occasions rarefied.
This whole thread is fucking bitch mode.
Are you a man?
Drink dark liquors. Drink them straight.
Bourbon, Scotch, Rye, Whiskey, Rums.
The more you mix the worse your hangover will be.
This is fucking relevant.

IF YOU ENJOY WHAT YOU'RE DRINKING, YOU'RE A FUCKING PUSSY.
lol
It takes time to develop a taste for liquor. If you haven't yet, a good way to turn yourself off from it is to force yourself to drink stuff that tastes terrible. This is especially true if you're in a place that only serves shit liquors, or if you're on a college kid's budget and can't afford anything but the bottom-barrel stuff.
One drink that I've found I can tolerate regardless of the establishment is a whiskey sour. At its most basic it's simply whiskey and sour mix, and even with shit-tier ingredients it's drinkable. It can start you on the path for developing a taste for whiskeys, too.
When I first started drinking I'd mix Captain Morgan or the store brand spiced rum with just about anything and after 2 they all tasted good. Usually do a 40% liquor to 60% mixer ratio. Personal favorites were ginger ale, dr. pepper, rock n rye faygo, and root beer.
Now that I'm older and my body rejects anything after 4 drinks (I have stomach issues) I drink strictly for taste. Everyone is different as far as their preference goes for taste so do not take it to heart when someone is judgemental. I'll list what I stick with as it's what I know and what I've been able to afford. There are many here that will spend good money for good liquor and it's with good reason. It IS better. My local Kroger runs deals for beer 10 for $10, so $1 for singles. I like to try anything different that I haven't before. Also, as Archi said earlier, beeradvocate.com is awesome.
Hard Liquor:
Cognac with a splash of water or diet soda
Johnny Walker and ginger ale
Dry Saki straight up or mixed with White Zinfandel
Beer:
Bass Ale
Guinness
Roscoe's Hop House Amber Ale
Oktoberfest(Harpoon is my favorite. I'll try any though)
Yuenglings Black and Tan
Black and Blue (Guinness with Blue Moon)
New Castle
Red Bridge (gluten free. clean taste)
One of the very first posts was Yuengling and I have to second that. Especially because out on the West Coast I haven't been able to find it.![]()
Also, I rather like White Russians. I'm partial to everything that goes into one: Milk, Vanilla Vodka, Kahlua, and Bailey's. Adult chocolate milk yumz.
Rocky Mountain Bear Fucker (shot)
tequila
whiskey
southern comfort
Drink those for a week and EVERYTHING else will taste excellent.
If that doesn't work then buy some wine coolers and tuck it in full time.
