Getting rank 10 before getting lvl 75 on my THF
Always getting a DRG in party so I could do light SCs in Bibiki Bay with my THF.
Tanking as DNC/WAR when WotG first came out
Dying in Valkrum Dunes for the first time... everyone was like Gob Train Zone!!!! I'm like What's Zone? What's a Gob Train? *DEAD*

I think FFXI survived this long because of it's history of social interaction. First online game were I heard about people falling in love, meeting up, and even getting married...

Nostalgia'ing a nostalgia thread:

For me it's the Dunes. It was just so asinine to run all the way out there, seek a party for hours, hope you got one, wait another hour because you didn't have a puller, set your HP out there in case you died, avoid someone training mobs to the zone line every twelve minutes, and then eventually link a goblin and have to start over again all for a big 3k/hour. But it was still fun because that was all you knew. Had some great times in Sky/CoP/all that shit, but if someone asked me to describe my first four years playing this game, the Dunes would be my go-to story. Cool story bro.

Loved when people in my sky shell asked why THF was my only 75 job, and I just asked why they still didn't have sea access with all the 75 jobs they had.
I swear for me DRG>any other DD, every damn DD was a pussy and would move away when I tried to TAWS them. Was often in parties with them since I had to make 90% of my parties and there always were DRGs seeking lol

Looks like I'm the only one that voted for Campaign.

My favorite time was when I discovered being WHM/SMN for healing purposes then discovering WHM/NIN. Solo'ing campaign from low lvl 60s to lvl 75 cap was probably the best time in the game.

Maat as RDM, the only time I fought him with my old account (I'd just gotten COR to 70 when I moved and then lost all my account info).

Sat there at the BCNM circle watching other RDM's go in and get spanked...

...and pulled it off perfectly with a sleep-nuke strat. He didn't even manage to get an Asuran Fists off once and I tagged him with a Sleep I just as he started Chainspell-Aero III'ing me, Cure-Convert-Chainspell just as his CS timer wore off (still sleeping BLAM BLAM BLAM win.

The first time I came back to do Magian torques as a dinky lowbie THF I saw Maat again, and it all just came back. Stuff like Ark Angels comes close, but that was an all-me moment.

Too many good times to list. But used to love getting to Shitadel only to have to wait 2 days to xp cause some idiot just kept zoning higher level shit, same could be said for making friends outside Crawler's Nest while waiting on crawlers to move back to where they got kited from.

Needless to say first HNM kill of any mob was epic and vent made you go deaf for a day or two afterwards.

Labyrinth of Onzozo on a 2 Handed melee before sushi existed, may as well been using a fan to cool off the mobs, looking at you drks. On same note having to team up with other 2 parties in Laby to kill Ose so some jackass rdm could just take the body anyway.

The never forget epic 8 hr + Tiamat on Lakshmi during Vanafest when I was getting 5 min text updates like I gave a fuck lol.

And lastly cause I hate everyones freedom, Haku-Fucking Taku 18 man group kills needing to get everyone a damn optical hat...

Zoning out of kazham dead underneath 20 goblins

Wiping in dynamis to a massive goblin pack in jueno, only to raise up, heal, re-pull and instantly eat an astral flow from a delayed summon.
Trying to outdo the taru blm's in dyna in deathcount.

Pre-nerf Campaign and Jagidbods War machine raping everyone in a 20' radius for 30k. And Rojgnoj one shotting me for 99k...prick lol.

Lots of fun memories from FF11...music, storyline, deaths, people along the way...

Despite how fucked the HNM system was, a lot of my memories come from the social bonds formed by camping those shitheads. Related:
- Having friendly rivalries with other shells.
- Being perpetually amused by the shells that claimed to hate botting, shit talked other botting LSs in public, but still had a group of botters themselves.
- Going on vacation, noting as much in my Vent comment, and getting a 5 AM call for a Tiamat pop a few days into my trip.

One of my more memorable gameplay experiences was leveling Corsair shortly after WotG came out. I was between jobs at the time so I ended up setting up a notification sound for tells and seeking 24/7, only sleeping between party invites (which were frequent since people were leveling the WotG jobs). To this day, Corsair is still my favorite job in any MMO I've played, from the look of their armor to the actual gameplay.

I still love Gusta music. Killed my first mob there 9 years ago. I rarely play with the ingame music now, but its always a treat when I get to hear the Gusta song.

holy shit, remember that event where it ported you some place but you were put at level one and were invisible and you had to find something on the ground or w/e?

I remember it porting people to Kuftal Tunnel but Guivre was up so kept killing everyone.

Man that event was awesome because I had never gotten to see most of the zones it took you to and I was so fucking scared shitless.


Think they brought the event back years later, but didn't have quite the same feel since I knew all the areas by then like the back of my hand.
