I forgot how much fun a time-nuked Ga-III was ... BLM was so much damn fun.
oh man. It was sunday night/monday morning, and I was going to bed; it was about 3:30 am. As I am literally laying down, my phone goes off; dude in my LS texts me "DONT SLEEP YET, TIAMAT IS UP." So I jump out of bed, sprint across my barracks room and log in. Switch to Scholar, and book it from sky where I logged down to meet everyone else. Got the pull, and our first consequent kill. Cor, brd, and my buffs, and me and the 4 blms we had nuking him down while our suicidal drk smashed home a ton of 2k+ Ground Strikes. Oh man... and after he died, I put on my uniform and went to work.

I remember one of my friends soloing all the Prime avatars for me when I was a lv40ish WHM, and thinking he must be the baddest-ass ever Red Mage to be able to do it. We spent the whole day wandering around collecting forks and killing avatars. And then I leveled SMN to 40 and quit it for years because it was such a disappointment of a job. It's still a disappointment, but I got it to 99 anyway just for the hell of it.
I committed myself fully to Blue Mage upon seeing one of my higher-level friends who was helping me with a mission cast Frypan and kill half the orcs in Ghelsba. I immediately knew this was the job for me.
Spending a day doing a PUG Mammet fight for CoP and failing repeatedly, and being so fucking excited when we finally won. Also, time-nuking Ouryu with a party of 5 BLMs and one PLD.
Not me, but a friend of mine spent a full day on RDM with his flag up in Kazham, waiting for someone to invite him to a party in the jungle. We had no idea why he was never invited. He was RDM/WAR. At the time we both thought it was a great idea for a sub.
Leveling a job from 10 to 15~20 was a commitment in Bastok. It was a hell of a trek from Bastok Markets out to Konschtat Highlands when you don't have a Teleport and you're too low-level to survive outpost warping to Valkurm. God help you if you forgot to bring meat jerky. For that matter, any form of travel for exp before they lowered the level requirements for outpost warping - by the time you could teleport there, you were too high level to exp!
Trying to get through Kuftal Tunnel to get to the outpost in Cape Terrigan and seeing Guivre for the first time. "Wow, that's a big dragon. Good thing I'm invisible and he's so far away... why is he moving so fast? Oh, shit." I cast Warp with terrible timing and wound up dead at my homepoint in Jeuno. Fortunately someone gave me a Raise II.
I once spent 8 hours straight in Newton Movalpolos soloing Goblin pets on my Black Mage to get from level 62 to I think 68 or 70. That song is burned into my brain permanently now.
Spending 50% of my first Dynamis run afk because my hot water heater was overheating and I didn't want the house to burn down. We failed utterly but I'm pretty sure it wasn't entirely my fault.
I was duoing with a friend in Valkurm Dunes one time and we saw a solo BRD17 soloing crabs by casting Requiem on it and running around the outpost, only stopping to recast Requiem. It took him quite a long time per crab and he was there the entire time we were leveling. I recently leveled BRD with the same friend and we spent the entire time making jokes about how much more effective I would be at my own with an outpost and enough Requiem.

theres tons more but I wont post them unless people really want it haha
Perhaps the most amazing thing about that album is that it's an official production, and not a fan creation.
I really miss the HNM days; getting called in the early hours of the morning or laying down with my PC at full volume with the bot running, and being scared half to death when I heard the Arenz pop alarm, and getting up to tan something half asleep. I miss sitting out at Cerb, Khim, Tia on PLD with linkshell mules and then claiming and holding it when it popped until the linkshell ran out there to kill it. Between the hours of 9am-1pm GMT we'd only have a handful of EU members and NA's online since we were mostly an NA based LS, it was really fun low-manning anything that popped between those hours.
I remember purposely flailing Tiamat to MPK our rival LS, pulling spiders through a Faf/Nid we didn't claim, diaga'ing adds on Aspi's we didn't claim, waiting for KB to go yellow after it killed a rival LS's BLM and trying to steal claim on it. Damn I was such a dick back in the day
Fuck you, PW.
That is all.
My very first shell... we all started the game at about the same time, there was like 12 of us. All around level 8-10 or so. We heard of these magical "subjobs". You needed to get to Selbina to start the quest. (We were all Sandorian, and hadn't bothered to read up that you needed to be level 18 to start). So here we go, 12 of us, no powders, no oils, on foot from Ronfaure to Selbina... oh the aggro, oh the running... in all it took us about an hour and a half to get there, only to find we weren't high enough. We spent the entire time on TS laughing like idiots, running from orcs, and getting raped by bunnies.
I played this game for a bit around NA launch but couldn't stand it, so I missed the boat on a number of things as they came out. I just felt so out of place coming from a game like PSO back in 2003. The pace of battle was much quicker than FFXI. It was one of my first "true" MMO's along with Ragnarok Online. It felt like having to learn a whole new language. For a while I was like "A mob? That's what you guys call a single enemy? Oh OK. Old MUD jargon" "Zone? As a verb? Oh. Moving to a different area."
I did decide to give the game a fair shake a few weeks before Wings came out in 2007. As a result, my experiences came later on after stuff like the 2-handed update and CoP adjustments. When I came back, I was in an LS with a guy who had 75 BLU and he assisted me with a couple things and I was just blown away. Lilithangel I think the name was. I knew from then that was what I wanted to be in this game. Some of my favorite memories were cannonballing NMs like Ixion and Odin back then.
Myself and another galka, Phlight, would go to DI as Blu/thf and try to time our CASATA cannonballs with the melee dps going in for their SA weaponskills. We killed so many war, drk, sam, and even a mnk that came with us. so many lulz
Where do I start! I have endless memories and little moments that kick my nostalgia into overdrive.
I began playing on the xbox beta server Hydra so I began playing on a server that had low population and only a handful of 60s as the highest characters. When the time came to move to a retail server the second I logged in and noticed artifact armor.. well I was screaming down the xbox chat to 2 other friends to come look ahaha.
I will never forget the feeling I got when I finally reached Kazham and started exping in those jungles, I also remember some level 40s helping me to Dunes as well and getting blinded by the shear white sand! And that adventure to Jeuno and reaching it for the first time! well you guys know how it feels.
I like to listen back to certain OSTs sometimes and just melt into my own little nostalgia world.
I also remember ringing a friend just to tell him someone casted protect on me the first time I entered Ronfaure lol.
I remember seeking for days in kazam on my war/monk. Like a week! Someone finally told me, "silly fool, don't you know that nobody wants you unless you can sub ninja?" I went and farmed a shitload of yagudo necklaces for fame. Silent oiled my way to norg, got lost and died in ssg a few times. Got the scroll. leveled ninja to 15, switched to war main in windy. I got like five tells back to back for party invites in the jungle. I was so fucking mad at the entire thing I ended up soloing war/mnk to like 45. Till today I don't get why anyone would want a /nin for low level mandies.
I started in Dec 03. And I remember when PS2 came out in April of 04 we'd dismissively refer to PS2 players as "PS2 noobs." Lol, so stupid.
I'll always remember the songs that were popular in spring of 03 (YYY's - Maps comes immediately to mind) because I'd leave MTV playing in the background while leveling my WAR in Kazham.
My first Fafnir was uncontested bc at the time on Asura, only 1 or maybe 2 NA LS had the capability of killing Fafnir. I was a (capped) lvl 70 BRD. It was really fun although of course I couldn't land threnody on him!
Eventually joining Nantekotta LS in like 05 was the beginning of a great time for me too. I liked those people even though we had a few douchy members and the shell split in 2 different directions. I wonder what happened to some of them~~
Definitely CoP Storyline. It was the transition between my noobiness to end game and the accomplishment value of it was really high at the time. The bonds with the friends I have in my CoP static party still feels better than the good friends and linkshells I had ever since. Learning about the game was really fascinating at the time, now sometimes I feel like I just know too much. The accomplishments now just feel more like grindfests and zergfests, there's nothing interesting about it anymore.
I just went through my old ass photobucket... ah memories.
CoP story and pre-nerf missions were the best. Being a 30 PLD in promys was brutal, I leveled NIN and SMN just for those fucking NMs. Nothing beat Airship fight though. Also spent like an hour just walking around Sea after we got there.
Probably spent most of early endgame farming Sky. I remember my first Genbu because my girlfriend was sleeping over and my LS leader called me to wake my ass up, lol. Also spamming Dynamis for PLD bodies and RDM hats, and Fafhogg claims were pretty fun too. ToAU was fun but not really nostalgia since I quit pretty soon after WotG came out (I hated it) and still spent most of my time in Whitegate, Salvage, or bird camp.
Not really nostalgia but my RL friend and I still talk about one night where we were like, "Hey, you wanna get V Belts?" Five camps, three claims, two drops, lol.
For all you noobs.
If any of you were lucky to experience these fights near there first release you have enjoyed FFXI at it's peak. Racing against other LS's, team-work within the 30+ LS members & seeing items drop.
I'd say my most nostalgic memories is going 1/5 on rdm maat and freaking out in excitement for finally winning.
Doing Dynamis - Bastok with my first egls as a 68 rdm and feeling so wowed and honored and vowing to get cor to 75 when I won cor bottes freelot lol (it's still level 8 to this day).
Getting bitched out for months to get drk to 37 for chainspell stun and finally doing it only for s/e to announce the cap rise the next day.
Doing Promy fights with an army of smns to Astral Flow burn down the bosses.
Barely managing after months of work to power through CoP and finishing it a few weeks before s/e removed the level cap on the missions/areas.
