    GameMaker: Studio
GameMaker Studio has provided tools for game development and creation for years, with numerous big-name indie titles coming out of it such as Hotline Miami and Spelunky, and now those that are looking to craft games for the big screen will be in luck later this year.

Developer YoYo Games has announced that exporting options for Xbox One, and other platforms such as Windows 8, will be arriving later this year to expand on the software’s current export offerings. After previously announcing that exporting to PS4 would also be available at some point in the near future, YoYo Games also revealed that licensed developers for Xbox or the ID@Xbox program would be able to export and upload games to Xbox One in Q4 2014.

    We can stream games, too
With Microsoft’s Xbox One taking a slight shift away from the big entertainment and multimedia that was debuted along with its announcement and focusing more towards games, a new document from Microsoft’s research division seems to indicate the company may be looking into game streaming as one of the next steps for its platform.

The uncovered paper details new technology that Microsoft has been researching and developing specifically to improve the responsiveness of game streaming, with the new tech codenamed “DeLorean.” In reviewing the document, the paper claims that the “DeLorean” tech can mask up to 250ms of network latency, leading to improved play by mimicking a low-latency connection. Testing the tech with Doom 3, the document explains:

Through user studies and performance benchmarks, we find that players overwhelmingly prefer DeLorean to traditional thin-client gaming where the network RTT is fully visible, and that DeLorean successfully mimics playing across a low-latency network.
The document also further elaborates that the DeLorean tech would appeal to those on other multimedia-capable devices, specifically mentioning phones, tablets, or TVs and other devices “lacking high-end GPUs.”

Kinect Standalone coming October 7th for $149.99
Since we announced the availability of a new Xbox One console option for $399, we have been excited by the response from fans. While we’ve seen our Xbox One sales double since the new Xbox One option became available, we have also seen increased demand for Xbox One with Kinect.

When we announced the new Xbox One option, we also shared that we would deliver a standalone Kinect sensor for people that chose to purchase the sensor at a later date. We’ve always believed in the magic Kinect brings to Xbox One and today we’re excited to confirm that, beginning in October 7, fans will be able to purchase a standalone Kinect sensor for Xbox One. The standalone Kinect sensor comes with Dance Central Spotlight, the latest in the dance series from developer Harmonix, which will be available as a digital download and features a soundtrack of 10 hot tracks. Kinect with Dance Central Spotlight will be available at retailers for $149.99.

Xbox One is better with Kinect, making games, TV and entertainment come alive with premium experiences. The Kinect experience includes voice and gesture controls, biometric sign-in, instant personalization, instant scanning of QR codes, and enhanced features only available with Kinect in games such as Kinect Sports Rivals, Dead Rising 3, Project Spark, and more. We believe Xbox One is better with Kinect, offering unlimited possibilities, and we’re seeing our fans use Kinect for Xbox One every day, with billions of voice commands since launch. Only with Kinect can you quickly navigate by using popular voice commands such as “Xbox On”, “Xbox Broadcast” and “Xbox Record That.” Twitch, Game DVR, and Upload are just a few of the experiences that are better with Kinect – for voice broadcasting, recording gameplay and Natural Voice search via Bing. Video calls on Skype are made possible with Kinect and Kinect enables you to control your TVs and set-top boxes via voice and HDMI-In, so you can turn your TV on and off, change the volume, or navigate to a channel by saying “Xbox watch ESPN”.

We’re excited to offer you more choices for purchasing Xbox One – with Kinect, without Kinect for $399, bundled with games like Madden NFL 15 or Sunset Overdrive, or by adding the standalone Kinect sensor at a later date. It’s a great time to choose which Xbox One option works best for you as we look toward the exciting new game launches coming in the months ahead.

    XBone w/ Kinect - $500
    XBone w/o Kinect - $400
Kinect standalone w/ Dance Central Spotlight - $150
    Dance Central Spotlight - $10

What is the extra $40 in that standalone?

When the original version of the product starts at the discounted price only, it's kind of hard to see it as anything but ripping you off.

You can buy the xbone kinect off ebay for around $70 ;o

Next time you're at McDonalds, check out the price to buy a large soda as a standalone.

Did McDonalds open with combos only and then later offer sodas by themselves? Talk about missing the point.

Was Titanfall part of the original Xbox One launch items? More fit analogy would be Wii with the Wii Sports. And yes standalone Wii Sports should remain free if the Wiis ever stopped coming with them.

It makes sense to introduce 2 items at a higher total price and then lower that price with a bundle. Or to even introduce both options at the same time. But it does not make sense to introduce a lower priced bundle first and then a year later reveal both items separately at a higher price.

bear in mind they never intended to introduce a second item/option because "kinect is an integral part of the system that we cannot and will not remove" (lmao) but then they got desperate.

what I really don't get is if recouping costs on kinect takes 150 dollars to get any sort of profit (and isn't just being greedy) then why WOULDN'T the kinectless bundle be 350 since they know they're desperately struggling to sell units. I can't imagine setting the price at 150 to move many kinects, or many kinect bundles, but setting the kinectless price at 350 so they were officially cheaper than ps4 very well might move the kinectless ones. obviously I'm not trained in sales/marketing/etc but from the perspective of "guy who buys things" the lower price point for the system seems like the obvious winner.

my assumption is that the actual cost to make the kinect is somewhere between 90-120 and so packing it in is a minor loss at most, but as a standalone they can't take a loss on it, and decided to swing for the fences. but again no idea for sure, just speculation.

I can't find the article, but a techie broke apart the Kinect 2.0 and priced out the parts. MS claimed it was almost as much as the One itself to make, but I think they are adding all R&D. They even made the statement that the Kinect should be $10k, so it's like we're giving it to you for free.

Edit: Kinect is $75 in parts.
