This is something I discussed with Miz earlier, but basically I came across a plethora of old files while doing some cleaning. Unfortunately my scanner broke the first time around trying to get them all, and the second time 'round the quality of some was just too poor for me to justify putting them up. That's the problem with black and white copies of slideshows and presentations - they're just so dark that even with max gamma it's impossible to read.
The idea was that given we don't have a real place to put things like this, and the LHC thread is more for random discussion and plugs, we wanted to be able to take our documentation and available references and make them available to those who wanted to read them.
So here are a couple of mine that I thought good enough quality to share ( I'm using dropbox because of file sizes and ease of getting them online / shared, let me know if any problems ):
The Applied Engineering Principles Manual ( link 143MB ) - Everything one should know about the basics of a whole lot of things, all revolving around theory and operations at a power plant. All unclassified, of course. Whenever you forget some basic theory or principle, this is the first place you should reference. They stopped issuing hard copies of these back in 2003, which I think is honestly a damn shame. This was the lastest copy revision available in 2012; you can find older copies for sell online ( and a free one from the USNA in PDF form ).
High Performance Ultra-Light Nuclear Rockets for NEO Interaction Missions + Nuclear Thermal Rocket Plume Interactions with Spacecraft ( link 24.56 MB ) - These documents were a few of a slew that was a major reason for me picking the nuclear field; I saw it as a way to get into space. Obviously that didn't happen for me, but the theories and ideas presented here are still awesome to dream about. Two documents enclosed in one file. Some of the graphs didn't come out readable, but the rest of it was and I wanted to share more than one thing.
And here's some actual source documents ( not scanned, original electronic formats in PDF ).
Advanced Core Design and Fuel Management for Pebble-Bed Reactors ( link 2.17 MB ) - Link name is self explanatory for this one, I think. Old, but again, most of my stuff is now.
Columbia Accident Investigation Board, Volume 1 ( link 171.62 MB ) - Large, high res image file. For those that have not seen or read this yet, give it a whirl. Contains a massive load of information about the shuttle's mission, the accident, and what happened afterwards. Additionally, you can find many more documents about the Columbia accident released to public domain on NASA's website here ( link ). There used to be an entire subdomain / site about it, but it looks like that was removed.
Antimatter Production for Near-Term Propulsion Applications ( link 103.66 KB ) - More information from NASA regarding some ( admittedly probably old ) data points regarding the topic of the paper.
And a cheeky bonus - nuke humor?! Meditations and Reflections for Naval Reactors Engineers ( link 18.82 MB ) - This file contains a whole lot of mess, some of it you've seen before and others probably won't make any sense ( inside jokes abound aplenty, but some of them are explained with footnotes at least ). Some of it is direct quotations to other authors or work ( I'm assuming that'll be alright, considering most of them are long past ). But there you go, a look into things that make us think / laugh.
