Google is kicking off games services on its Play Store that allows developers to add achievements, social and public leaderboards, cloud saving, and real-time multiplayer. The games service goes live today and works completely on Android, and mostly on iOS or other "connected devices" – that second batch won't support multiplayer.

Google Play's games services differs from Apple's Game Center in that it offers backend support, rather than a standalone application.

"We won't make it a mandatory exercise, or have any certification process around it," Google lead product manager Greg Hartrell told Engadget. "We create fantastic services that allow developers to create these great game experiences, and help promote their discovery, help retain their users and keep them engaged."
Nobody liked Openfeint but this may be alright, specifically for the cloud save service it offers.

The Walking Dead has been finally updated with widescreen support but for whatever reason the cutscenes still have 4:3 ratio and have ugly borders around them. Two images I took from my device.
    Spoiler: show

The game is still free for episode one so be sure to add it to your itunes account.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/walk...524731580?mt=8 - Free

The original Sonic the Hedgehoge has received a enhanced update with widescreen, better visuals, better sound and better performance. You can also unlock Tails and Knuckles now.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/soni...316025912?mt=8 - $2.99

505 Games, a global publisher of video games, today announced that the block-building smash hit Terraria is headed to the PlayStation Vita system. In development by Engine Software, Terraria for PS Vita will be available in summer 2013.

Originally released in 2011 by indie studio Re-logic, Terraria is a side-scrolling, action-adventure sandbox game with an emphasis on crafting and exploration set in vast and vibrant worlds. The game has received universal and critical acclaim with millions of “Terrarians” embarking on their own adventures since the game’s release on PC, XBLA and PSN. Now mobile gamers can gear up for the action because Terraria is headed to phones and tablets so players anywhere can dig, fight, explore and build!

Players will discover more than a dozen environments and face treacherous perils including over a hundred twisted foes, magical creatures and villainous bosses. The controls have been completely redesigned for touch screens and every aspect of the game has been tweaked and balanced to give players the perfect on the go Terraria experience.

Terraria for mobile platforms will support leader boards, achievements and Facebook integration so you can share screenshots of your adventures and creations. In development by Codeglue, Terraria for phones and tablets will be available starting this summer.

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath coming to iOS/Android "Soon"
Oddworld classic Stranger’s Wrath will soon be available on even more devices, including conveniently in your pocket.

Just Add Water’s Stewart Gilray and Oddworld Inhabitants founder Lonre Lanning gave The Sixth Axis a look at the game running on iPhone, saying it’s on its way to iOS and other mobile platforms “soon”.

The build was incomplete but playable via button overlays, and will support controller pairing for Android devices.

The port uses the original Xbox assets; Just Add Water may use some of the higher res assets from the recent PlayStation Network HD remake, too.

Square One Games is developing the port, which has not been dated.

A semi-new game for Android called Finding Teddy has been making quite a name for itself on Google Play, receiving high ratings and happy players. The game is a point-and-click title, centering around a young girl who travels through an entirely interactive world, collecting items, using them to defeat monsters and solving puzzles/riddles.

The game itself looks fantastic, with cute animations and other helpful characters throughout the levels. It’s the perfect mix of adventure, looks and playability. It costs $2.32 through Google Play, so go check it out and let us know what you think.

WWDC was today and with it iOS 7 was announced, beta access was given to developers already. iOS 7 now supports official gamepad designs for developers. Apple may not release a official iGamepad anytime soon but they are open to gamepad support.

What this means is if developers choose to make a game that supports controller there is now a universal design they can work with. As for the controllers you'll be free to buy any kind of gamepad as long as its "Made for iPhone". Games that support gamepad will still need to be playable with touchscreen though.

Looking to pick up an RPG or FF game for my phone, but since they are anywhere from 5-20$ I figured I'd ask here first.

    Any recommendations?

Looking at FF3 right now, think its 50% off at the moment.

I have SNesoid/GBCoid and actually have FF3 rom, but I wonder if the game will be better from the play store than on the emulator.

I see Chrono Trigger and FF4 too, but those have lower ratings.

Today, Ubisoft announced that the legendary Prince of Persia series will come back on mobile devices with Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame on July 25th on iOS and Android devices, through Google Play and Amazon, at a price of $2.99.

Rebirth of the legendary action-platformer, with brand-new visuals and redesigned controls, Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame is set after the events of Prince of Persia Classic, continuing the saga of the wanderer who was born a Prince. Now he must embark on an epic journey in search of his past to redefine his future.

Following the storyline of the original game released 10 years ago, it will allow players to explore various levels in visually-stunning 3D with intuitive controls designed for touchscreens. Among plenty of new features, players will now be able to choose between gesture-based touch controls or the classic virtual joystick. The combat system has also been improved with multiple enemies, tactical challenges and a brand new combo system.

The game's experience can still be extended through social connectivity, allowing to unlock achievements and ascend the leaderboards or to share scores with Facebook integration.
At least they didn't have a countdown website.

Does anyone have any recommendations for iPad games that are local multiplayer? I have Monopoly and Uno that can be played in a similar fashion to the board/card games. Girlfriend and I are taking a flight to Chicago next week and I can either get us a few games or a headphone splitter to watch movies.

Today at Siggraph, Nvidia showed our next-generation game engine technology - Unreal Engine 4 – running on their next-generation mobile GPU.

The big news here is Nvidia’s support for the OpenGL 4.3 feature set, which brings to mobile devices the same high-end graphics hardware capabilities exposed via DirectX 11 on PC games and on next-generation consoles!

And this isn’t your father’s GPU: Nvidia’s mobile graphics technology is built on the same Kepler graphics architecture found in its latest generation of PC GPUs. It’s the same Kepler architecture on top of which we’ve created high-end Unreal Engine 4 PC demos, which have taken advantage of over 2.5 teraflops of computing performance.

More than ever before, we see the opportunity for developers to create high-end games and ship them across multiple platforms on a wide variety of devices, including tablet, smartphone, Windows, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Nvidia’s OpenGL 4.3 achievements open up the mobile front of this strategy.

While Unreal Engine 3 already powers hundreds of high-quality games, from PC and console to mobile, Unreal Engine 4 has been reimagined for the future of game development. We’re supporting developers on an entirely new level across major platforms with our most powerful and scalable toolset to date.

Starting today, Nvidia’s engineers are demonstrating Unreal Engine 4-powered desktop PC game content to a select group of journalists and industry insiders. It’s all running on a chip no bigger than a fingernail, and is just a taste of what mobile Kepler will make possible.
