Gumi to localize Sega's mobile titles starting with Chain Chronicle

SEGA Networks and gumi today announced a partnership to distribute SEGA Networks’ Japanese game titles in North America, Europe, South Asia and other territories. Gamers can expect the first of these titles later this year with the launch of the popular Japanese RPG Chain Chronicle. Both companies are collaborating in order to provide localized support for player preferences, languages and gameplay environments.

SEGA Networks was established in July 2012 to distribute mobile games based on SEGA’s legendary franchises as well as those based on new intellectual property. Recent hits include the puzzle-RPG Puyo Puyo!! Quest, which reached more than 10 million downloads in Japan, and Chain Chronicle, which has remained in the Top Grossing category on the App Store and Google Play. Chain Chronicle allows gamers to become a soldier who builds an army and fights to protect the imaginary land of “Yugdo” from the menacing Black Army. As the game advances, players begin to unravel each member’s story to create a long chain of chronicles where all are connected.

gumi’s subsidiary Alim Co., Ltd. launched the hit title Brave Frontier for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android smartphones and tablets in 55 countries including North America, Europe, Japan and South Asia, demonstrating that Japanese-developed content can achieve success on a global scale.

Earlier this week, gumi issued an additional amount of external shares, of which SEGA Networks acquired a share. With this additional funding, gumi will continue to grow their divisions responsible for developing and publishing mobile titles worldwide.

2K today announced that one of the Company’s highest-rated games of all time,BioShock, will be coming to iOS devices as a premium priced mobile game later this summer. BioShock will bring the complete experience of the original “genetically enhanced” action-adventure, first-person shooter to iOS devices, while offering optimized touch controls and full Made for iPhone (MFi) game controller support.

BioShock delivers a true triple-A first-person shooter game experience on the iOS platform, by sending players on an underwater adventure to explore the submerged Art Deco city of Rapture, fighting deranged survivors of a failed objectivist utopia and genetically modifying their own DNA to gain superhuman powers.

Developed by Irrational Games in 2007, BioShock launched to wide critical acclaim, garnering review scores of 10 out of 10 from Game Informer, 9.7 out of 10 from IGN and 9 out of 10 from GameSpot. The inaugural franchise release also won more than 28 awards for its visionary art, writing, audio and overall quality.

BioShock will be available soon via the App Store as a premium title for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

Bioshock priced at $19 NDZ / $15 US / £10 UK

The game is released tomorrow in New Zeland, August 28th, and has supposedly been rejigged to play well on Apple hardware. NZD$19 is around $16 in the U.S. and £10 in the UK.

However, early hands-on impressions from the likes of Eurogamer and <redacted> suggest the game has taken a hit in terms of controls and visuals.
