Supreme Court to (finally) rule on same-sex marriage

Edith Windsor, the plantiff, was married in her state. The case isn't about allowing gay marriage in a state to occur or states' rights. They are using her because she is suffering material harm (estate taxes) from the feds refusal to recognize her marriage.

I'm trying to say you are woefully uninformed about the potential results of the DOMA ruling.

There is no chance whatsoever that this will result in gay marriage being legalized in every state.

It easily could, but it won't. Not with this court of pussies.

If the court finds that DOMA violates the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment then they will have determined that all people have a right to marriage regardless of sex.

Actually what will probably happen is the the 4 liberal judges will find on equal protection grounds and 10th amendment grounds, while Kennedy will only find on 10th amendment grounds. It's going to be a horrible decision, and it's going to let this stupid issue rage on for years longer than it should.

If they were going to broadly legalize gay marriage in states, it would be in the Prop 8 case - not the DOMA case.
