I doubt XI is going anywhere since the game practically prints money right now for very little upkeep. After 10 years, an MMO can basically be run by a skeleton crew and still be profitable since all the remaining players are already hooked too deep to stop paying for it. XIV on the other hand is completely up in the air, but I can't see too much changing for it since they've already overhauled the thing from top to bottom.

FFXI will exist for as long as they profit off the model. Whether the players like what they're paying for or not.

Look at the original EQ. 20 some expansions later and I have friends that still pay 39.99/expansion.

If only they had developed playonline client properly for use as a gaming distribution platform ala steam/origin and not the shitkicker gateway it was for years, SE might have done a better job picking up small companies and making games more available to us. It certainly would have helped them advertise and market things better on PC and it could have extended cross-platform from there. I feel like a lot needs to change at SE and it all seems far away from real progress right now.

Agreed, they've messed up with the iOS FF5 port. They definitely need to get Matrix back in there remaking the other two SNES titles with the full 3D treatment. Heck, imagine if they tackled Chrono Trigger too. Never gonna happen though.
