Windows XP dies 1 year from today

At work we're slowly starting to migrate to Windows 7 on new installs. Unfortunately there's still a lot of software that vendors haven't yet got up to Windows 7 compatible that's holding folks back I think.

Yeah my company said they wanted to migrate earlier but too much of the 3rd party software we use isn't compatible with 7. I know that the program I use for 90% of my work isn't compatible so they haven't ordered us new laptops yet.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but this reminded me. I use teamviewer with my parents' computers all the time since they live in CT and are terribad at getting viruses n' shit. They got a new laptop recently and it has Windows8....holy shit balls I now understand why people complain about it. I was all "wtf why are they turning comps into phones?"

Anyway, there's no way in hell my parents are going to be able to get the hang of the way Win8 runs, so I'm wondering just how hard would it be to give her a "legit" copy of win7 instead? I am visiting them in July so I could do it then. I don't think they sell them anymore do they?

yeah a friend of mine bought a new pc and it had windows 8 installed, i was over there the other day, trying to do the most basic functions becomes such a hassle now. i wanted to just format the drive and be done with it

also if that doesn't work out for you and you want a "legit" copy of windows 7 pm me.

I'm more worried about building a PC that's "good enough" to run current games at 1080p now, but then starts to crumble in a year or two once multi-plat games designed to milk the next-gen console's hardware come out.



It's mostly because my CPU is single-core. Always fun playing a game and seeing my CPU maxed out even on simple looking shit, just because it was written with multi-threading in mind.

16GB ram, 3770K OC that to 4.5Ghz on air, nvidia titan, there ya go.. 1080p at playable fps till 2018ish, problem solved!

You can stack the Nvidia Titan up to 3 times if I remember correctly and that will most definitely last you for a while, haha!

There are a ton of compatibility issues in windows 7, especially with legacy software. I even face this issue with a program we purchased in 2009 (which came out that year) with windows 7. Also migrating a program from a 32bit os to 64bit can be extremely difficult if not impossible depending on the program...so we're forced to use win7 32 bit in many cases.

I've been lucky to not have any incompatibility issues with both windows 7 and 64bit, even on older 32bit hentai games made for windows XP, only a very rare few required compatibility mode... O_o

it only works 50% the time anyway, you need VM (or whatever MS provides for prov version and up of windows 7) for that 100% computability ;/

All of our windows 7 computers are professional edition for the Virtual XP. Certain programs STILL won't work. It's not 100%.

I do not think the PC's at work could handle windows 7/8(fuck 8 that was not made with business in mind)

I think there's exactly one program i've ever considered using that (sometimes) doesn't work perfectly with windows 7. And that was pre-alpha software written by one guy so he could do one thing with it, and then probably never use it again, which barely worked even on XP.
