Important Announcement to Our Steam Users (04/18/2013)

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, the Seekers of Adoulin standalone expansion pack will not be available for purchase on Steam. However, we're pleased to announce that our fans who have previously purchased a version of FFXI on Steam will be able to purchase the FINAL FANTASY XI: Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition through Steam at a special discounted rate starting Friday, 4/19/2013.

*Important:
Before you install FINAL FANTASY XI: Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition, please ensure that you "Delete Local Content" of any previous versions of FINAL FANTASY XI within your Steam library. Detailed instructions can be found here.
Once you have installed FINAL FANTASY XI: Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition, please visit the Square Enix account management page to either link your registration key and bonus item codes to your existing account or to create a new account.

Because it's so hard to have Steam grab additional files to download when it sees you own certain DLC.

Steam FFXI user here, no shits given. I went and bought the expansion through the website and believe it or not it works perfectly.

The steam version is basically the same as a normal install, it's just tucked away in the steam folder. Maybe steam has some kind of policy about addon materials to games that they're too lazy to deal with.

Cool, can anyone else also confirm this? Steam owner here and was about to buy it and didn't even think it was going to be an issue. If it ends up being the same price as the expansion whatever ill just uninstall steam and grab seekers edition to be safe i guess.

Steam release of FFXI is untouched from the retail client (even loads without Steam active), so any combination of expansion sources works as long as regions match-up, unless you want to mess with the registry.

Have to have purchased a copy of FFXI via Steam, and the discount is 25%, making it the price of the expansion itself.

The Adoulin standalone installer downloads and unpacks data, which it then installs. Steam requires that games be packaged in a pre-installed state (as an image), and then distributed through them before being unpacked in an identical condition to the user's machine. Square Enix isn't the first company to have issues with this, and it surely won't be the last.

I purchased from Amazon and had Steam version of FFXI prior. No problems here.
