I'm all for getting everything up to 120Hz and 99% color gamut before we move on to the next set of resolutions.

Don't forget the abolishing of overscan.

On the overscan note, I do hope 720/PS4 have a system-level screen calibration for colour/screen-size so I don't have to tell every game that asks me, to move the arrows to the corners of my monitor, or adjust brightness for a dark game.

Hardware has catching up to do before 3D ceases to be a gimmick.

True 120hz pixel refresh rate (not "this TV can interpolate up to 600hz!!!!!" bs) should be a standard bulletpoint already, which at that point typical movie 3-D becomes 'free' for active-shutter glasses.

I could use me an HDTV some day that simply has a "display what the video feed tells you to display" mode without all the internal processing to artificially make the image 'look' better.

While I'll like 120Hz to become standard there's no need for TVs to use true 120Hz, there's no media that uses 120Hz and only the 1.4b spec even allows for true 120Hz 1080p over HDMI. Which unfortunately seems to be completely ignored, it isn't even used on 120Hz monitors where it can be utilized, hell we only recently got to the point where 1.4a is common on stuff outside of current gen desktop GPUs.

Next realistic resolution jump should be x1600 not x2160, seeing as how 2560x1600 has been in the niche community for a while. Although I guess it'd be x1440 because lol16:9. Also 10bit over 8bit encodes have been the standard in the anime community for a while now.

Before I see standards increase above x1200, I'd much rather see TN all but abolished and IPS/etc type panels become more prominent and cheaper. 178/178 degree viewing angles are so incredibly nice.
