I like the idea behind #2 but the milky shiny white color is a bit abrasive i think.

I like Final Eternal Phoenix XI more myself, a consistent thing about all these Altana-based shields both here and the ones that have been posted on XIAH is that they basically take pieces of the statue/Amano Art/etc of Altana and copy-paste it rather than create their own original image of it. Ignoring that, the colors of the Shield of Altana are great. IMO.

Kinda surprised that they're going to make it into a useful shield as well. Wonder if by useful, they mean better then Steadfast, and just shy of Aegis/Ochain, would love to see it get used, if only by Plds without RE.

No. They're making a level 1 version for show, and a level appropriate version for actual use.

Wow, really disappointed they chose relatively generic shields for the winners now, because some of those are beautiful. Really loved this contest though; I hope they have more like this in the future.

he changed some font size and colour but that's it

Surprised how many really good shields there are. Definitely digging some of them much more then the top 3 they picked. Wonder if they'll pull from any more of them for future designs, some really have that feel of a real ingame shield, while others were just for fun type projects for favorite characters and such.

Wonder how many vagina/dick shields they had to skip posting lol. I remember someone posting their teethy maw here when it was first announced.

To be fair to some of the MSPaint-looking ones, I'm sure there were lots of people that thought you weren't supposed to just composite a bunch of images together using photoshop but rather create a design. I still think it's kinda lazy that a lot of people just took a screenshot of Altana's Statue and then photoshopped that onto a shield.

My theory? They're not going to bother cleaning the winners up at all so they chose entries that have shading that matches with the rest of XI. A lot of those shields you posted don't have the "texture" that most XI items have and they're apparently too lazy to at least do that.

Like that very center one has very cartoonish even lighting, top right looks like a painting, etc.

There are many shields in the list of entrants that I like better than the Winner.

When I see the winning shield it doesn't look as polished as the others for some reason.

Nearly the first 30 on the entrants page look pretty amazing. If they had been able to have the Flying Shield actually have rotating propellers that would have been badass.
