I'd definitely use it multiple times a year if it existed. I fly or drive to SF at least yearly (visiting friends, catch a ballgame, etc) and if I could do it for less than half the price and in less than a third of the time I'd go even more often.

I'm just trying to figure out how, in a 1/1000th-the-air-pressure-of-earth environment, will it have enough air "sucked up" by the front turbine as it travels to "power" the air hockey table-esque "air bearings" that it is nominally floating on?

I'm guessing the basic principle is similar to a bussard ramjet.
Yes there's very little of what you need in medium your traveling through, but go fast enough, and you run into enough to make the thing work.

It appears that there's progress being made on the potentially game-changing transit system: The developers estimate an up-and-running Hyperloop in just 10 years.

Of course, there's still plenty of work to do. On Friday, the brains behind bringing Hyperloop to reality released a 68-page white paper outlining progress on the land travel system, which transports people in pods that move as fast as 800 mph. Since then, it's not so much in Musk's hands as it is Dirk Ahlborn's. He's the CEO and cofounder of JumpStartFund, the startup overseeing Hyperloop with Musk's approval.
