Really? Because a lot of what I get from Ether is "Yous a dick riding faggot" "dick sucking lips" "gay z" and "cockafella records" and jay z is ugly. Seriously, he comes off as ridiculously butthurt and the only meaningful thing he conveys in that song is how homophobic he is with all the slurs. Essentially, it's a 16 year old's idea of a diss. It really detracts from some other stuff he brought up, about how he's not true to rap or some nas shit. IMO, he murdered nas with the lines about his career and how he has a "1 hot album every 10 year average." "I made it a hot line, you made it a hot song." Also referencing fuckin Nas's baby momma...

Like I said, I like Ether more as a song, I think Takeover is by far the better diss. But No Vaseline doe...

Jay-Z's Takeover had a homophobic line too. Even before that when he was blowing up Mobb Deep, he used wordplay at them too. Homophobic lines are wack, but everyone used them.

Of course Nas was butthurt, Nas made Jay what he was. Jay spend years bitting wordplay from Big, Pac and Nas himself, which is why he even eluded to such in Ether. They were good friends, and Jay sold him out, just like how he used many other people in the rap game to get ahead ("you're a dick riding faggot, you love the attention"). I think you need to go back and relisten to Ether, and then go back and listen to the history of how it even got to that point. Dude even stole his lines and used it as a hook without giving proper credit or royalties, much like how he bit from just about everyone else that Nas mentioned in some form or fashion.

I think Takeover was good too, but it was no Ether, despite all of the homophobic word choices (which I hated too for the most part). I said the Hot 97 Diss that Nas did was the best for a reason, Nas went full frontal with his wordplay, straight from the dome and wrecked everyone in Roc-A-Fella. Jay's delivery in Takeover was amazing and unpredictable, and he got under the Nas' skin by calling out his mediocrity, which I think is wonderful (Kendrick Lamar is doing the exact same thing right now, which is why I love it.)
