    Then gaf figured it out:

This is solid enough to conclude TitS 2 is heading to the US, maybe even on Steam if this interview is anything to hang your hopes on.

Part 1 was released for PSP as The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
I do not like the odds of SC being localized to PSP in North America/Europe which leaves two options: Steam and PSN digital only release. I do very much like the odds of part 1&3 coming out on Steam as PC versions of the entire trilogy already exist and XSEED has to be happy with how Ys did there.

It's finally official: the second chapter of Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is coming to Steam and PSP as a digital release next year. The first chapter, already out for PSP, will also be released on Steam at some point this winter.

That means English-speakers will be able to play both games in the beloved RPG series on PSP, Vita, or PC by the end of 2014.

In case you're unfamiliar: Trails in the Sky is one of my favorite role-playing games on the PSP, thanks to its sharp writing, killer music, and wonderful sense of adventure. It essentially captures everything I'd want from an RPG. And it ends on one hell of a cliffhanger, which has led fans like me to grump and whine to XSEED asking why the sequel (a direct continuation of the first chapter's story) isn't out in English yet.

Now we know. It's coming next year.

XSEED is publishing SC with the translation help of Carpe Fulgur, the company behind Japanese RPGs like Recettear and Chantelise.

“We are pleased to finally give the fans what they have been requesting so fervently for over two years,” said XSEED vp Ken Berry in a press release. “There’s been a constant demand ever since we released the original The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, and we are extremely grateful for our partnership with the passionate localizers at Carpe Fulgur to finally make it a reality.”

Here's a plot synopsis, via the press release:

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky opens in the quaint and peaceful town of Rolent in the Liberl Kingdom. Home to a peacekeeping coalition free of government ties known as the Bracer Guild, the adventure follows two young aspiring bracers known as Estelle and Joshua on their trials to become full-fledged members of this elite organization. As they embark on their quest, their journey will take them across an entire country, unraveling a sinister government conspiracy along the way that’s poised to overtake the throne, threatening the very peace the bracers seek to uphold. Throughout their adventure, players can expect to learn the full depth of these characters’ origins and motivations through dialogue-driven cutscenes and lengthy side-quests.

Trails in the Sky SC, meanwhile, begins immediately after the events in the first game. Following the explosive revelations at the very end of Trails in the Sky, Estelle feels adrift and must find her resolve along with friends both old and new, and face down the true architects of the chaos engulfing Liberl – a force far more powerful and insidious than she could ever have imagined.

Boasting over a hundred hours of gameplay between the two episodes and featuring an engaging narrative that encompasses everything from politics, economics and conspiracies to tourism, traditions and even a cat-speech dictionary, these two titles in The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky series combine to form an incredibly immersive RPG experience. On top of its meticulously crafted world where all actions and inhabitants are accounted for throughout the story, the game also features a meticulously customizable combat system, a massive cast of characters from all walks of life, a variety of landscapes, an in-game newspaper that publishes new issues as the story progresses, and much more. In The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, players are responsible for shaping the world, and will see direct repercussions from their actions as the game unfolds.

Well put, even if they do use the word "meticulously" too much.

We'll be waiting patiently for SC. In the meantime, you can check out the first game on PSP (or digitally on Vita) or wait until this winter for the PC version

I've always wanted to play, but I heard the conversations between the two main characters is too much, my friend said sometimes it feels like just nonsense.

MAC: I know initially there was some concern with the original Trails in the Sky coming to Steam due to the content differences between the PC and PSP versions. How did this end up getting worked out?

KB: This is still a work in progress, but if you've played any of our Ys releases on Steam then you'd know that our programmer did some amazing things by combining the best features from multiple past releases into a single "ultimate" version, so fingers crossed the same magic can happen again so that the PC version has all the added features from the PSP release.

^Yup, true widescreen updates for the fucking win. I hope they give these games the same treatment. Boring storyline or not, I will probably purchase these just to support them.

Its definitely not your typical stuff and the characters really do feel like family in Trails in the Sky because they do have those random interactions sometimes but I didn't think it was boring at all.

I'll give them a shot when they come to Steam. I'd like to see more JRPGs on Steam even if they're mediocre.

XSEED Games, the independent-minded console publishing brand of Marvelous USA, is pleased to announce a partnership with Carpe Fulgur to bring the much anticipated title, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC, digitally to PC and the PSP system, including compatibility with the PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment system, in 2014. The first chapter, previously released for the PSP system as The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, will also be released for PC this winter.

The result of a near endless deluge of fan requests to XSEED Games after the company released the first chapter on the PSP system in 2011, this will mark the debut of the English version of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky on PC, as well as the first release of the English version of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC anywhere. The two chapters will release as two separate, back-to-back installments.

“We are pleased to finally give the fans what they have been requesting so fervently for over two years,” said Ken Berry, Executive Vice President of XSEED Games. “There’s been a constant demand ever since we released the original The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, and we are extremely grateful for our partnership with the passionate localizers at Carpe Fulgur to finally make it a reality.”

“This is something we've had an interest in doing since practically the formation of the company,” added Andrew Dice, Project Director for Carpe Fulgur. “If you talk about or work with 'PC gaming from Japan', as we do, you can't really ignore Falcom's huge presence over the past three decades. Trails in the Sky is particularly special, and I'd wanted to work on it ever since the day we started business. I'm thrilled that we will finally be able to bring the game to English-speaking audiences, in partnership with XSEED.”

Developed by legendary RPG specialists Nihon Falcom, the multi-part story told in The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky represents an entirely new stand-alone entry in the timeless The Legend of Heroes series. In The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, players venture through the diverse landscape of the Liberl Kingdom, experiencing its unique traditions and cultures along the way and shaping the world itself with their decisions.

And it's Steam where they will have the best returns by far. The last console generation has not been kind to JRPGs considering how front-loaded the sales are on shelves, but Steam sales can easily create the environment for niche JRPGs to survive for a long time. Imagine Recettear as XBLA only.

Bit of a bump, since I don't see something current and this has now captured my attention.

    http://operationrainfall.com/2014/07...-fc-next-week/

I am assuing the "FC" is for "First Chapter" and that there are 3 total chapters; 2 of which have yet to make it stateside correct?

As someone who has never used Steam before, should I opt for the PSP version or try it out here in anticipation for the 2nd title?

Sorry for anything thinking this was an update on the 2nd title. My bad.

SC should be releasing this year on Steam.
TC has been aquired by XSEED, but I doubt it will ever see the light of day, or at least within the next 5 years.

Supposedly the Steam version will be supperior.

I havent played FC either, but i've always heard good things.
I may pick FC up when SC is closer to release.

First game is excellent, but 2/3 aren't gonna be out for years (if ever in the case of 3, but afaik it's not a direct sequel like 2 anyway). If you're impatient you might wanna wait and check the series out later, if not it's definitely worth a look.

Hell yes. I've been waiting for this to come out for some more Falcom action/kick-ass music. Now if only they'd get Ys VI on Steam...

Well looks like they solved their issues they were having with Steam! Hopefully that means SC is still due out by later December and not 2015! Also I highly recommend this series to anyone on the fence about playing it. Mainly once SC comes out, it will be nice to have others to talk about the series with (I've played all the way through Sen no Kiseki, waiting on Sen on Kiseki II and Akashiki no Kiseki).

Just picked up Trails and it's pretty fun. A bit text heavy. Kinda reminds me of Persona in a sense where the first hour of the game is mostly dialog/tutorials. After that it's a pretty enjoyable turn-based RPG.

But to warn anyone thinking of getting it, there are a few bugs that need to be worked out. Mostly with some crashes/codec issues, that and for gameplay related bugs S-Breaks and controllers don't go well together. Or at least not for the 360 controller without a mapping program such as Joy2Key

New trailer link isn't working. I'll fix when I get home.

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

So is the Playstation Store release only for Vita? I'd like to get it on psn, but don't have a vita.
