Shouts should have a 30s cooldown, minimum. I know people love to epeen over public channels, but in the context of answering questions and being helpful, sending the asker a tell can do the trick as well as open the door for clarification. This has the side effect of curbing troll chatter a bit, too. Otherwise, I could see a see a system where if you get X amount of blacklists, it tiers you up into cooldowns. 10 people = 10s, 20 = 30s, 30 = 1m, 40 = 5m, 50 = chat lock and auto-GM report. If it's found by the GM that the message isn't spam and the blacklisters are all in the same FC trying to troll someone, then they could get locked out instead for abusing the system.

The blacklist counter doesn't need to ban. It just needs to disable your shout.

So for example, if 10 people in the same zone as you add you to their blacklist in 5 minutes, your shout is disabled for 5 minutes, with an extra minute for each person over 10. SE seems to have GMs banning, so this should fill the gap until they can get to the shouters.

Either i'm confused or have entered a time warp.

SE didn't do anything with the shout spam.

Shouts were always denied after x amount of spam assuming they were the exact message. The RMT have been putting a random variable on the end of shouts for a while now to get passed it..

Yeah, what SD said was kinda what I was aiming at. Sure, anything that involves the community is going to be exploitable at a certain level, but where do you draw the line between letting the RMT roam free, and having a system that could be used for mild griefing.

this is correct. the spam msg spam filter has been there and rmt were putting random shit at the end to get around it for at least a week now

I never saw(noticed) no random characters in RMT shouts :S

Do you have to repeat the (exact) shout excessively quick to even hit the filter?

Needed more people bitching on the OF about lack of mobs for diremite threads and fleece, less about endgame dungeons they can't even run because they're level 30.

I wonder, wouldn't it be better just to have like an "auto-mute" for shouting people, without mentioning it? Like, If a bunch of people blist you, your shout is disabled, but there's no message or any indication given to the user it doesn't work. Instead, it would show up in your chat log, and everything would appear normal, but to other people it wouldn't show up at all, sorta like a stealth /echo. That way it would auto mute gilsellers, who would have no clue their shouts werent working, and continue to shout to no avail, leaving it at SE's leisure to either ban them, or just leave the disabled shouting bots in peace while we all have a good laugh.

Same could go for tells as well.

No need for spamming, just set it to activate once every 29 minutes or whatever.
