    FATE Grinding above your level

I've been bouncing around between jobs in the higher FATEs(currently 43 DRG, wanting to level CNJ, ACN and THM), and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was better to do FATEs around your level, or go to ones that're higher than you?

Seems like you get around the same for both, but idk..

Don't think it makes a difference, pretty sure rewards are capped by your level, I.e. you do a lvl 47 fate but would only get capped EXP for lvl 43.

Just avoid ones below your level really, coz you won't be getting full EXP.

Idk the mechanics behind it, but when I tried fate grinding for a level when I was low 30s I always got the best exp with fates that are about 7~10 levels higher (dragon snow area, whatever its name is). Since I did it solo, I just made sure to attack mobs that had firm hate and it would be np. Ended up getting gold the majority of the time, and 10k+ exp.

When I was actually at the appropriate level I was getting the same exp I was when I was a lower level.

    Pretty much what blowfin said.

here's my general way of fate grinding.

1-20 = youre fucked, just pick low level zones and do fates/hunting log
    20-30 = southern shroud
    30-35 = costa del sol
    35-44 = coerthas central highlands
    44-50 = mor dhona

I totally agree with this guy. I followed the standard guide that has been posted on Reddit and elsewhere and I don't agree with it. If you target FATEs 7-10 above you, you get killer XP. Quarrymill is a perfect example; at LV 22, the ~LV25 FATEs gave me ~6500 XP while the LV 32 FATE with the bandits north of Quarrymill gives ~11,500 XP and takes the same amount of time. I'm 23 LNC and I'm thinking about moving to Costa del Sol now.

Yea, Bluefrog/CPP is insanely fast. DD+Go Go pop and you just got 300k exp easily if your party is decent. It's even better if you can somehow convince the people there to farm the mobs for the doblyn/vanguard FATEs instead of just turning in items 2m in.

This is my list for level/area though I tend to stick to hunting log areas early on and for some in between/change of pace leveling. (stole the list from somewhere here)

1-12: Horizon in Western Thanalan (Thanalan)
13-20: Aleport in Western La Noscea (La Noscea)
21-30: Quarrymill in South Shroud (Black Shroud)
28-34: Wineport / Costa Del Sol in Eastern La Noscea (La Noscea)
30-38: Dragonhead in Coerthas Central Highlands (Coerthas)
38-42: Revenant’s Toll in Mor Dhona
42-50: Ceruleum Processing Plant in Northern Thanalan (Thanalan)

and idk about always staying 7 levels below, Coeurl King nets 20k+ exp when you get closer to 30, and Quarymill has 2 20k exp FATEs, with another 2 easy 10k+ ones. (would be higher if people farmed the easy mobs like DD instead of just turning in the items)

It took me 3 days to level BRD to 50 using this basic schedule and it's only my second 50.

Prioritize fates depending on your lvl AND boss fates.

Boss fates give like 2X the exp of other fates, so lets say...

    You are Lv 44

You are in mor dhona... fates are say Lv 44-46, there are no boss fates, so you always get say... 15K exp fates.
Then there is north thanalan, fates are Lv49, it has 2 boss fates these are say... 30K exp each (excluding dd grind fest from this jsut to help along suggestion for other level ranges of fates).

2 boss fate zone > 0 boss fate zone

I'm not well versed in FATEs, since I haven't needed to grind them for exp, but isn't there at least the Voluptuous Vivian that's a boss FATE in Mor Dhona?

This isn't a real boss fate, just an "NM" FATE or whatever you want to call it. Single stronger enemy to kill, but gives the same exp as regular FATEs.

Ah, that's interesting. So the "boss" FATEs are typically those ones that spawn with a timer above 15 minutes?

Yeah, I think all boss ones are 30 minutes (however, there is a hive one in south shroud that is 30 minutes for some reason, maybe it becomes a boss FATE if failed? Never actually seen it fail though), or at the end of a chain of FATEs.

The only thing different about the "boss" FATEs mentioned is that they are usually at the end of a string of 2~3 other FATEs that need to all be won in a row. Unless you're just talking about the mean face icon on the map.

Other than that, I don't believe there's a difference between rewards outside of level-difference and those few that give out some items (Odin/Behemoth/Cancer/etc.). The benefit of the FATE strings is that you can basically mash through 3~4 FATEs in one go for crazy EXP/seals (Svara, Highbridge, Redbellies, etc.).

The FATE map icons are as such:

Face = NM (1 main target needs to die, usually has several adds)
Shield = Escort (Protect an NPC along a path, with several waves of enemies)
Bag = Item turn-in (Usually triggered by speaking to NPC, can kill mobs or collect from the ground for items to turn in)
Tower = Defense (protect NPC or object from waves of enemies)
Exclamation = NPC that triggers a FATE when spoken to.

Are the high level fates in Eastern Black Shroud any good (Dark Sylph area)? I ran past a level 50 Capricious Cassie fate the other day.

  18. #18

Well, almost no one ever goes there, so you'd be stuck soloing the NM by yourself. Based on the time/exp ratio of doing that, I'd say you're better off FATEing in the other areas, even if you could solo it.

I tried to solo an NM fate in the kobold beastman hold on SMN. I got there with about 11 mins left and couldnt finish it off in time, kept having to deal with ads too
