I can see why some people would be turned off by the character sprites but I don't really think they are enough worse that it should stop anyone from buying this if they already wanted it.
But hey, its a game on a phone so I don't even know why I'm in this thread.

I think part of the complaint is the huge difference the other games had in their graphic update compared to the lack luster 6 graphic changes.
I have been waiting for a sale to buy up this copy, not spending that much for a mobile game that I already have 2 copies of on other systems

There's some licensing issue with ffvi iirc that does not allow them to do a graphical update like ffiv. I don't know the truth behind it.

Don't see what is wrong with that picture. Doesn't compare it to the original, and if you mean the little city its an old 2D game.. They did the same thing with Wild Arms 2, it doesn't make it as bad as people sound.

Wild Arms 2 was a PSX game that's supposed to be choppy and pixelated as shit. Just stop. If you don't understand classic sprite work, then cease your blathering. You clearly don't understand.

The graphical style (though not the UI) between the FFV screenshot you just posted and the FFVI screenshots looks the same to me.
Could it simply be that the FFVI characters themselves are not well-suited to the same style as the other games? I mean, it literally looks the same.

I'd argue that they just aren't designed well, period, but that's a matter of opinion. The fact that the style used is pretty much the same, however, is not.

At least FFIV/V had their monster sprites redrawn (granted FF4 Complete on PSP was all around consistent with its style), while VI continues using the low resolution SNES versions.

My main pet peeve with the iOS versions is the resolution disparity between everything in addition to the style clashing.

In the FFV screenshot, Bahamut looks like a fucking boss and the characters look like blurry turds. FFVI is worse, even the monsters aren't as sharp.

And Tiny Figaro Castle just cracks me up, lol.
