Feb. 25th is pushing it. I'll only have 13 days to play through the both of them before I get sucked into Dark Souls 2 for the next six months.

Don't bother with Dawn of the New World. That gives you 13 days for Symphonia goodness.

Dawn was not terribly bad, i actually liked it a lot and as cheesy as it was. It was nice that they did an actual sequel to symphonia.

I personally didn't despise Dawn either. It isn't as good as the original Symphonia, and the story is comparatively half-assed, but it's better than Legendia.

Then again, almost everything is better than Legendia. It set the bar rather low.

Dawn would have been better if it (A) had a good story, and (B) said story focused more on the original Symphonia characters (read: not enough Kratos), because really, why the fuck else would you want another Symphonia game? Fighting system, obviously, but you can get that without having something labeled "Symphonia"—take Vesperia, for example—so, the connection is wasted on Dawn.

I've already played the piss out of Symphonia, so maybe I should just import Vesperia instead. @.@

You can buy the Korean/Asian version on eBay and save a lot of money compared to purchasing the Japanese original. The game is 100% the same, but the packaging is not.

(I have the Japanese black label original regardless, because of course I do, but I wouldn't fault someone for buying a cheaper version just to play it.)

EDIT: There's some fairly cheap copies up on eBay at the moment, though. Example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS3-Tales-of...item3f2afc8cfc

Don't tempt me on Vesperia PS3.

    I was ok with Dawn.

And the main reason I'm ok with Legendia is because of how the second half of the game developed the characters. Would be cool if some other Tales games did it in the same way, given how much more likable those casts were.
I'd have liked it a lot more without Shirley, though.

The ending in particular was very Grandia-esque. Oh, how I do love my Grandia storylines and endings. Sadly, the last boss in "Grandia II" was far too cake, but even so, I recommend playing at least it and its predecessor to those who haven't. Do try to get "Grandia" undubbed, though—the domestic release literally used anyone Sony could grab for voice acting, which ruined everything. "Grandia II," though? Leonardo (Cam Clarke) was the main character, motherfuckers.

Following that, the "after game" begins, which takes place one year later, and is where you run around and talk to everyone.

    Spoiler: show

Also, the music—oh God, the music. Grandia, how can you stand being so good?

I liked most of Grandia 1's VAs.

Are you sure about that? Are your fondest memories of "voice actors" tied to your grade school teachers reading storybooks to you?

Hell, even the German fan dub is better than the English release.

VA aside, I did love me some Grandia, though I missed out on Grandia II because I never owned a Dreamcast. Grandia III was fun to play, but the story really sucked.

Regarding Symphonia Chronicles, as much as it's been my favorite Tales experience, I don't know if I want to re-play Symphonia again just to enjoy the second game. Still haven't finished Xillia due to FF14 spam..... le sigh.

I've wanted to do a runthrough of Symphonia -> Dawn -> Phantasia just to spot all the connecting elements with a fresh memory but that'll have to wait.

With that, you're off and running. Enjoy.

Symphonia > Xillia. No one will blame you if you leave one unfinished for the sake of the other, I promise. That, and how long has it been since you played Symphonia last? Further, did you only play the domestically released GameCube version? You may well have a lot to experience and enjoy.
