To be fair, back then FFXI EXP parties worked back then where, besides it being somewhat mandatory (unless you're BST, or later on BLM blowing up Beastmen pets) was because we had very little distraction.

But nowadays where everyone is constantly checking Facebook and Whatsapp and Twitter and viewing stupid clickbaited shit on the internet and not to mention an array of everything else, it's extremely hard to keep a bunch of random strangers together without them thinking their time could be used elsewhere.

League of Legends keeps people together for up to 30-45 minutes, but only because of an extremely punishing system if you leave or try to throw the game; but is only natural/good due to the free nature of the game combined with promoting a good play environment in-game.

Duty Finder is basically an EXP party itself, except you .... roam down a set path. It does the job, it makes people commit for less than 1 hour unless everyone's being derpy, and people don't feel too committed.

Ever had that feeling where you had to leave an EXP party in FFXI but felt guilty to as there was no replacement, and you went on for 2 hours more? Especially if you were a WHM, BRD or RDM. Yeh no, fuck that lol

To be fair I think even in 2004 if you were grinding crabs for 3-4k an hour (when you needed at least 16k+) you had a niggling feeling after like 30-40mins that you could do better or that you would rather do something else. For me, for the most part I was watching anime or TV or listening to music while singing really badly or reviewing homework (or doing homework) or just about anything else.

It's easier to find stuff to just do now, I don't think it's a symptom of the times just of a really boring activity.

Oh man, getting a rep as WHM/RDM/BRD/COR in Colibri parties was murder, and if you left without getting one you were pretty much crucified. I remember logging in on RDM during NA prime and getting 4-5 (Experience Points)(Do you need it) /tells before I could even get to a Mog House to change jobs lol

If you were a WHM/COR maybe, but BRDs and RDMs do whatever the fuck they want and people have to deal with it. Especially if you had a rep for being a good player (leaving parties as a RDM without giving a fuck is literally the only thing I liked about the job).

I mean, it started off terrible and then got outdated then it became less terrible but still outdated. XI was pretty bad for a long ass time (like what, 4-5 years?) and that didn't change until long after I quit.

Oh man, there was one earlier that I really regret not grabbing a screenshot of before they deleted it. This one girl was complaining about "vote kick abuse" because she was kicked from a dungeon after someone repeatedly asked her "<name> jewels?" and she failed to reply. Everyone was all "OMG REPORT THEM! REPORT THE ELITIST ABUSERS!" before someone called them out saying there had to be more to the story.

Any of the bigger facebook groups are an absolute trainwreck and often put the OF to shame since even the OF knows that showing up to high level dungeons missing half of your gear is retarded.

That's because their free trial accounts were blocked from sending messages of any kind. Once they went F2P, the RMT came back.

If we treated RMT like we treated Childporn, we'd see it disappear pretty darn quick. RMT might actually be more dangerous since it could be laundering funds for crime or terrorism. We, as the player of the game, don't know what RMT is doing, but the fact that they continue to operate suggests that it's organized crime in China and not just a bunch of nerds in china doing it to make a few bucks.
